i dont know if its just me...but when i have my heat on...this odor comes out,i cant describe it but its not clean air. you can smell it more when you drive. anyone?
is your car new? and does it smell like exhaust fumes? or burning fumes? if it is its the exhaust setting in.. its gonna take about 2000 miles i think. if its something else. check the dealers
there was a thread on this, about stinky air and the unchangeable Z micro-filter or whatever it's called. I guess mildew or something grows in there and someone sprayed the air conditioner intake with lysol or something and it got better. If it's stanky, it could be this. It happened in my 92 ZX and it does it in the 350 too, only when the automatic climate control is like inbetween cold and warm, if it's just on heat, it doesn't do it and when it's on air-cond cold it usually doesn't do it, but if it's like set to 72 or something it does it for a few minutes maybe till something dries out.
Is the smell sort of like HOT melting plastic....sort of what it would smell like if there was a piece of plastic wrap stuck in the heater duct and when the heater is set on high, it begins to smell???

One way to help prevent the mildew build up is when turning off the A/C or defrost leave the car's vent setting in a vent mode, not off.
It keeps the flap open and let's the moisture out.
I would also add that with the auto climate system...turning it off with the air set to fresh instead of recycle will also leave the cowl open and let it evaporate.

I have the same smell, I have 1991 miles, and the smell only comes on when the heater is on? The dealer wants it the entire day, BS, so it can sit outside half the time.
Mine has a radiator-fluid type smell.

I had this problem with my dodge ram. they said water condensates in the AC, and then mildews.
to avoid the problem they told me to drive the last 5miles to the location without AC, just vent so it would evaporate out. I never really listened to what they said, just sorta moved past it. I dont think its a Z only kinda smell though.

Oh well, I guess I will live the rotten smell, hopefully it will go away.
I think the Z needs a Micro in-cabin filter.

Well, I took my Z in this morning to fix the smell. Guess what, they had the car for an hour, and said they couldn't find anything, it was not the heater core. They said more than likely it was condensation. WTF? They said since it sat for 3 months condensation built up. They told me to spray Lysol in the vents. I had to laugh at that one. Hello, My Maxima sat for 6 months and no bad smell.

I was told the lysol thing too for my truck. they used some special cleaner that did the trick as well(for a few months anyway) they also said , febreeze ect. whatever floats your boat pour it into the intake in front of the windsheild.
