Default Delivery date?

Just wondering the average wait time for an 04 to arrive. I ordered mine in late Sept and was told it would arrive mid Dec now they say end of Jan. The wait is killing me. Thanks.

Put my order in late September...dealer submitted it the first week of October, and it arrived about a week ago. I'm picking it up today.

Typical time for an order is 2 to 3 months. Ordered mine first of November, got call Friday that it will definitely arrive first week of Feb.

Dealers place their order at the beginning of the month. If you order today, chances are it won't actually be ordered from Nissan till the beginning of Feb. if they've already submitted their Jan. order. Start the clock from then, not when you actually talk to the dealer.

On the other hand, if the car you ordered can be fulfilled by one on a boat or at the port already, it could be rerouted to the dealer and you'd have it in just a couple of weeks. Your dealer will probably try to find one at another dealership and see if they can trade, etc. to get it asap.

Default VIN number after dealer submittal?

Did you receive VIN number from dealer between your order time and pickup time? If so, how long after the dealer-submittal did the VIN number show up? (If I recall correctly, most people here picks up the vehicle about one month after VIN arrived)

Congrat on picking up your Z, see our vendor(Courtesey Nissan) on reminders when pick up.....

No, I didn't receive the VIN from the dealer but saw it in their inventory on NissanUSA.com. Thanks, I'm looking forward to picking it up.

Ordered Nov. 4th 2003.
I'm still waiting, and there's no news of a VIN number or anything...sigh. I'm getting really sad now.

3 months = Feb. 4th 2004. So I hope to have info soon.

Dana:

You're on almost the same exact schedule as me. I ordered on Oct 25 but the dealer didn't actually place his order till Nov 3rd. I got a call Friday that they had a VIN number, the car is on the boat and will be here the first week of Feb.

Hopefully, your dealer didn't place his order on the 1st of Nov meaning that your car didn't get included until his December order.

Dana,

Check with the dealer to find out the exact status. They should be able to tell you something. Especially, ask them if Nissan accepted the order the first week of November. If not, your order may not have been accepted until the first week of December. Also, some dealers take orders from customers when they have no monthly allowances left or have others in front of you. They hold onto the customer's order until they can submit it.

Make the dealer give you the current status of your order. You should at least have an Order# for your order if it went in the first week of November. December would be the build month and January would be the shipping (boat and truck) month.

Good luck.

I ordered mine on Oct 3 and got it on Jan 6. I starting talking to the sales manager after the 8th week (salesman told me 6-8 weeks) and he fed me a line about the salesmen "should've known better." I have a friend who is a car salesman, and he tells the truth when he says they will pretty much do anything to make a sale. I got mine now and I'm happy, so its not a big deal, but I was mad for a while. It was definitely worth the wait.

Ordered from the factory (not some dealer wait list) the first week in September and it was delivered in Southern California on November 19th. The most you should be waiting is around 90 days for a real factory order.

Thanks for the info everyone! I actually came in and wrote my deposit check at the end of October, the order was placed with Nissan on November 4th, and the dealer says that the computer shows a delivery date of February. (no specific date or other info)

I am going to try and get more concrete info because I'm getting concerned now. It seems like everyone had either a VIN or a car by now. Day 70.

I sold my old car (a 2001 Celica GT-S) last week, and so I've been bumming rides since then. Hehe, it took 2.5 months to get a buyer for the celica, so I'm glad I started selling when I did! Now I have cash in hand, and am DYING for my Z!

Your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Ordered my car at the end of October, so the order was actually placed beginning of November. I got my VIN a little over a week ago, and their computer is showing that the car should be arriving at port today (Jan 14th) and should arrive with them no later than Jan 22nd. Never had to wait so long for a car before.
