i went to go get my oil change today and i talked to one of the engineers about the hissing noise. they said they will check it out. once they lifted the car they brought me down to the garage and showed me where the noise was comming from. it was from the fuel pump(which is next to the right rear wheel, same place i suspected the noise the first time i heard it). the engineers told me that the hissing noise that we occasionally hear is from the fuel pump letting out pressure, and assured me that this is quiet normal for our cars. well i hope this answers some of your hissing noise problems.
I usually don't say this, but maybe use the search button next time. This has been addressed a bunch (including by me) and it would have saved you a trip to the dealer. However, I do understand why you thought it was an odd noise. It does get your attention, but they are right, just a normal fuel pump.
When I heard this noise on my 1999 Subaru Legacy I thought something was wrong with my car, then I read on a Subaru forum that the hissing noise is from the fuel pump.
Got my Z, heard the same noise and I knew it was the fuel pump.
