this isnt going to happen, if nissan is going to release a 2.4 liter engine powered sports compact car it will be a revival of the 240sx, not a z.

The z has always had a 6cyl and it will remain that way. I can forsee either new revamped 370zs or a new bigger v6 for the new z

cool. 4 cylinder is fine. It'll compete better with cars such as the s2k on curves.

hopefully they work on the body design a bit more. The concept look like a saturn sky.

This has given me another reason never to sell my Z . It may be worth $0 in 50 years because of all my mods, but itleast I can go out to my garage and think about the good' ol days.

They def wont make the engine bigger as the GTR has 3.8L V6 engine.

I wouldn't buy it. I like the 6 cycle. Mine will be with me a long time. I bought it brand new and makes me happy at 491hp, vs the hp of that 4 cycle turbo would be. I have a little carbon fiber on it. And I'm Happy with it. I liked the 240, 260, 280 and the 350, but I can't see a 4 cycle.

Don't knock the 2.0 4 cyl Turbo with direct injection. I had a 2009 chevy Cobalt tuned to 280WHP and with a curb weight of only 2900 Lbs, it was VERY quick. Only problem was it was FWD..but I can tell that lil sob was very quick and nimble (with proper set up). I averaged 21+ MPG and I drove it hard. Cheap...yes...but GM did their home work on the engine and basic suspension. You see the same engine on the Pontiac Solstice..Saab Turbo as well.

I guarantee that the Z would NOT weigh 2900lbs, for comparison.

My TurboG is ~350whp and I average 22-24mpg (taken over several fill ups).

A Z or G is not made for a 4cyl...or at least HOPE will not be made for..

They could easily drop the curb weight by 300lbs with a smaller motor and some other modifications. That would put it close to 3000Lb curb weight. The engine could easily produce over 300 WHP as well. Much more favorable HP/Wt ratios could be achieved with this set up.

I don't think they intend to move backwards in performance. I suspect the new generation car will be quicker and more nimble. Let's hope it LOOKS decent.

Don't think a 4 is gonna happen.Nissan has been looking at doing a smaller version of the Z to join the 25k "pocket rocket" category---BRZ,FR-S and others. Its true that the
Nissan wants/the car needs to be lighter. However, the Z consumer is just not gonna embrace a 4cyl car. This segment of the market is getting more and more competitive.
More hp,the addition of a turbo and a lighter car will sell cars.
Don't fix whats not broken. The addition of a "Z JR" will work especially if the styling
and accessories are right. This would attract a much younger buyer.

engine swaps are always around.
This car will be lighter, and it needs it. Thers really not a huge reason to have a 240 and a Z IMO. A blend between the two would be great. Certainly will be cheaper to squeeze power out of a smaller engine and with a lighter car, any extra power is multiplied vs what we are curently used to.

I would gladly take a lighter Z and spend 10k on 400 whp than have this tank of a car, get 5 mpg w my foot in it in boost, and ahve spent well over 20k on the 500+ whp im looking at.

Once i get mine back, im starting to look into weight reduction and traction.. sounds like Nissan may have started this car where im ending w mine.. just sayin.. our beloved car is already a civic.. let it go. lol.

At least when you and I want a new one, we wont have to spend another 37 grand to do it this time.

Weight is everything in performance. I took 300 lbs off a track car and it was night and day. Take 300 lbs off a Z and it would be a Porsche contender.
This new car will KICK AZZ. Even if they keep the same HP and drop 300 lbs...BINGO!

Wow, so the type of engine has a direct effect on handling... I never knew.
