They can, and the Silvia name would be more appropriate for that car. They can easily release a competing car under this name.

 

If like the article says they are using the same FM platform, they bettr use a lot of aluminum to take that weight off. On the other hand a 2 liter turbo four can sure produce enough pwer to move the weight as there isnt 30 lb difference between my Evo and my ZR, but it become a totally different driving feel and mileage be better with enough power won't be cheap. JMO but if this prject is going to show up by next year color me doubtful.

My 04 ZR gets 22 mpg and my 12' Mazda 5 minivan gets 22-24. I dont get it, I drive the Mazda kinda slow. My 09 Mazda 5 stick got 21.

 

Nissan won't reinvent the Z unless Porsche reinvents the Boxster. Stealing sales from potential lower end Porsche customers has been Nissan's target sales market for the Z for decades.

 

lawn dart hit it in the head, look at the current/next gen boxter/s and carrera and you will get the aprox specs of the next nissan Z.

 

The only way id be cool with a 4cyl turbo is if its capable of big power numbers for cheap, similar to the Evo.
