Question Can you start the car without key fob?

The key fob (alarm disabler) is not working but I have my key. I am able to unlock the car door with the key but when I put the key in the ignition and try to start the car the alarm goes off and the car will not start.

Is there anyway to disable the alarm/start the car if the key fob does not work?

The alarm should disable when you unlock the door with the key. Sounds like you have an issue with N.A.T.S. not recognizing the key once its in the ignition.

do me a favor and try this one out....unlock the door with the key and before you take the key out, unlock it again. On some cars to get past the factory security system you have to turn the key twice. Hope that works for you boss

Try to find another key fob, if the alarm is activated you won't be able to do anything

Sorry but this is false, I have left my fob in my trunk and opened the door with my key and the alarm went off for a few minutes until I could wiggle into the trunk. I was in my wetsuit after surfing too, not cool

You shouldn't need the fob at all. Works fine for me with just the key.... The car should read the chip in the key once it is put in the ignition. I'm pretty sure the FOB just acts as a wireless key for the door/alarm. If you lock the car with the fob and engage the alarm, your actual key should be able to unlock the door and start the car.

I bought my Z a few months ago, it did not come with the fob. The car will start without it. Cheap OEM fobs are available on Ebay, BTW.

Just like anyone with an aftermarket alarm too.

Ah no it's not. Factory alarm arm/disarm works with the lock/unlock signal, so if you use the key in the driver door cylinder the alarm should disarm when you unlock it.

Do you have a spare key? The chip in the key that sends the signal to the computer may be damaged, the car will not start. About $80 for a key.

If the fob was the last thing to issue the lock command the alarm may have been set off when he used the key to manually unlock and open the door.

After the alarm was reset he should be able to lock/unlock from the door switch and use his key without issue.

What about trying the procedure to unlearn all key fobs from the car? Then try it with just the key. When I bought mine recently, it didn't come with fobs, just one key. It started without the fob. Bought fobs off ebay that came with instructions, and part of that was making the car unlearn all previous fobs. You can google for these instructions.

The fob isn't the issue.

N.A.T.S. is not recognizing the key. OP you need to bring the car to a dealer and have them figure it out.

The FOB is not needed. When turning on the car do you have the FOB with you in the car? Maybe the battery is low and activating the alarm.

No, dcains called out a post that has since been deleted as spam. It was a good catch.
