Age 23. First car under my name. Full coverage w/ $1000 deductable. ~$1700 for 6 months.
Or
~$1900 altogether with my family (total of 3 cars, sister and dad)
Guess which package I picked?

First you don't say what state your in. Second, just a thought, working in insurance myself, if you screw up big time, you will take your parents down with you. A couple of tickets, an accident, forget it. They will cancel the whole family policy in a blink.
I'm over 50, no tickets or accidents and in NYS, I pay 700 a six month. I have high bodily injury, bla, bla, bla.
Would I get one at 19? No. Not unless you get your own policy, have a great job, and behave.

you can only be on someone elses policy if the car is in their name. If the car is in your name then you have to have your own policy. The policy and car have to be to the same person. If the car is in his name and he lives in a different state that shouldnt matter as far as getting coverage for yourself no matter where you live, just make sure that the you get atleast the minimum coverage for YOUR state.

z ulayda - good advice, i am a smart driver and dont abuse the road, i used to be a typical boy racer when i was younger and always did 20+mph but i came to the soon realization that that was completely stupid and immature. i like to think of my self as a good driver. (this wasnt meant to sound mean by the way )
i went and took a peak at a few z's today, didnt test drive yet because i didnt want to waste the dealers time until i was sure i would and could purchase. base sounds about right for me, i would love to have LSD but its a lil more cash that im willing shell out right now.

theres a time and a place for going fast, i routinely get into triple digits but only when and where its safe and i know theres no cops around... got it up to 115 today. as long as your smart about it you can have fun with the car. i consider myself to be an excelent mature driver at 19, better than most of the idiots out there. pull the trigger on the Z purchase, you wont regret it. good luck

Man, I hope you can get your Z. It has given me such a thrill to have and drive mine. My husband is super at sharing our Baby.
Remember when shopping for insurance, that some of the insurance companies that advertise may come in with a cheaper rate, but when processed, you could get a much higher rate. Try and go with an independent agent who deals with many companies. I do a lot with Progressive and GMAC. But if you deal with them direct, sometimes it can come out higher. Don't ask me why, I haven't learned that yet!
Remember too, Bodily injury limits. People don't sue for 25,000/50,000. If you have any assets, you could kiss them goodbye in a lawsuit. Read and think before you drive your baby. And get full glass coverage. It's cheap!

call your insurance company
jb2k3, just call your insurance company. It varies so much depending on where you are, your driving record, how much coverage you get, your deductibles, and the company.
For example, I'm 29 and paying a little under $700/6 months total for both my cars (02 Max and 04 Z) w/Safeco.

Insurance is so confusing! I have four cars, house and boat insurance. Even with all that it's still high!
Best bet, I would say, is get 100/300 BI, at least. Check and see if the lien holder (if any), will let you carry 1000 deductable collision, get 1000 comp and then see what 500 comp would be. Always get the full glass. It's cheap! Get out of state PIP or better.
Just ask what the difference in cost of all the coverages! Sometimes it's so little difference for so much more coverage. The thing that cost the most in any insurance policy is the collision and, if you have a record or a lot of claims, BI.
I'm not a licensed broker, but working everyday with this, I learned all the differences. People don't realise how little some of the coverages can be. If something were to happen, you don't want to loose any of your assets because you didn't want to pay the extra $20-100 more a year! And, if or when you can, ask about an umbrella policy. Just ask questions. That's what your broker or agent is there for. It's their job!
Geezzz, it's Sunday! Why am I working here! Enough from me. I can say no more! My brain hurts!
