Default Crumby Gas Mileage

13.9 WTF? It used to be more like 17-19mpg.

I know the stealer does a fuel-injection cleaning of some sort for like $200.00.

I'm not a big fan of additives (I do use Techron but have never had outstanding results). I imagine using the correct additive properly could achieve results. I've heard of Sea Foam but don't know much about it.

http://www.seafoamsales.com/how-to-u...treatment.html

I'm looking for advice from someone with experience,

Thanks,

Hank

Gee I had no idea that someone must have asked this question before. I'm not looking to research 133,579,478,231 threads on the topic and I'm certainly not looking for an a-hole answer from someone like you. I'm also pretty certain (at least I hope not) that you are the "Star of the Show" on this Forum and there are a bunch of helpful fellas ready to help a noob out.

Sorry you felt compelled to answer my stupid question,

Hank

Help us help you. What, if anything, has changed from when your mileage was ~17mpg to now? Also, how long have you experienced the drop in mpg?

Does your area use winter blend gasoline?

I can get 34mpg combined city/highway 6th gear at 20mph and never exceed 55...it's really boring. I'm at about 27mpg right now combined with nothing over 80mph. City I get about 10mpg if I drive like an ***. So 13mpg could be plausible if you drive like an ***

COW,

Thanks, Yes Los Angles does switch from "Summer Blend" to "Winter Blend" and that happened recently. Gas went up to nearly $5.00/gal (they blamed it on a shortage of some spin or other) then our governor "Jerry Brown" mandated early release of the "Winter Blend" early. Maybe it has snow flakes in it. Everything else around here is flakey so why not the gas?
The good news is I haven't see high test 91 selling for less that $4.00 ($3.87) for almost a year.

As far as changing anything else goes: No changes same old stock 2004.5 roadster with the only mod being lightweight flywheel and Nissmo HD clutch.

Thanks for helping,

Hank

I don't have any good answers, but the extra information might help people give you a good answer.

I'm assuming you're doing regular maintenance, including oil changes & proper tire inflation?

You offer no details.
Like:yr of your car/miles...when did the drop start etc?
First, won't hurt to drop an additive in your tank like Seafoam.
Don't do the "stuff thru the intake" just yet.Stock intake/filter?
Is it clean?Any codes/CEL?Bad CATS/oxy sensor will cause "crumBy"
mpg.If all this check out,I'd guess its emmision sys related.Unless you
are driving with your handbrake on...

Your posts are always the hardest to read. So scattered and unorganized, especially on the mobile site. Besides, he mentioned the year/model a few posts up.

It's called laziness. This is why we have 133,579,478,231 threads on this and other topics because it's too hard to search . This forum is loaded with knowledge. Just search here or Google search topics and links to this forum pop right up.

The 350Z has been around for 10 years now. You think topics like improving MPG on here or other car forums hasn't been covered before?

Do your regular maintenance, add a fuel additive (I use Seafoam only in the gas tank) and accept what you get.

You could have stopped right about there. No mention of year or engine, mods, etc. so why would anyone expect you to do any research on a site that has hosted thousands of owners, both previous and current? So sorry if I did not take a wild stab in the dark and give you an answer that more than likely has absolutely nothing to do with your problem. Although I did like the parking brake suggestion....Oh - and 2000 posts doesn't even get me honorable mention as Star of the Show around here. And - I'll open up a whole new can of worms - what are you basing your mileage on?

yr of your car/miles

2004 / 86,000

...when did the drop start etc?

Oddly enough I’d have to say it WAS when the gas formulation change from summer to winter as cow pointed out

First, won't hurt to drop an additive in your tank like Seafoam

I can do that and it does seem like the easiest thing to do.

Don't do the "stuff thru the intake" just yet.Stock intake/filter?

I’ll check but I’m pretty sure my intake filter is clean

Is it clean?Any codes/CEL?Bad CATS/oxy sensor will cause "crumBy"

Have not had any diagnostics done as of yet

mpg.If all this check out,I'd guess its emmision sys related.Unless you

are driving with your handbrake on...

Thanks, these are all good points,

Hank

Hank (consider the "thumb" a middle finger)
He meant your first post noob. No details in your first post, so why would someone give you your golden answer? Like cow said, help us help you.

You start disrespecting old time members here, you'll get pretty quickly.

Let's add this thread to the very similar 133,579,478,231 existing threads on MPG.

No, he had already posted his response to the first post and was more interested in flaming than answering a question and didn't bother to read the next post where my "mods" were listed. Just because Perf is an old time member doesn't give him the right to jump all over me. If you want to defend him fine. I'm sure there are some guys that will see my point and help rather than focus on criticizing.

Hank, It is fairly obvious you don't want to do any research or even listen to the people who can or will give you advice. Since you want to be a smart a**, I suggest you take your car to the dealer to have them try and resolve your issue.

Gee - since the OP is all butthurt click on the link below. This took me all of 30 seconds to type "gas mileage" into the advanced search feature. And you know what is so cool? It has info from people who will never ever see this thread.

No harm, no foul - still gave him a link to peruse. Takes more than a noob to scuff me. And it only took him two posts, lol. Still wondering what method he is using to compute mileage though - call me a masochist.
I still think the rules should require all new members to read the Top 100 and the Quick Index though.....
