a 55 w aftermarket ballast couldnt possibly hope to keep up w an OEM nissan ballast, 35 watt or not. Youd have to modify the bulb case cover and would also need an OEM style d2s ballast kit ( round bulb connection vs slim 2 wire.. which are total crap lol). I would highly NOT suggest either route. Not because im super cool or something, but because i dont want you to regret destroying good components.
Andrew at the retrofit source is awesome, but id highly reccommend you simply look into a better brand or color bulb before nixxing the OE set up.
Ive had a TON of experience w all of the aforementioned items, oe ballasts, and about every kind of aftermarket ballast out there.. i have piles of them lol, trust me.
If you want it even brighter, you need to stay as close to 5500k as possible w a high quality bulb... and the sti-r premium lens from retrofitsource will totally change the light quality and pattern.
