Default New member, with questions

I recently purchased a 350z unexpectedly. I was searching for a car to buy (not 350z) and I stumbled upon this and fell in love with it! I've got a few questions because it is not perfect, needs a little love but I'm sure most of it is an easy fix. But first I'll start off with some pictures, I know everyone loves picture.

I'm looking to buy some stock wheels until I buy coilovers. Any opinions on which coilovers I should get for daily driving? Won't be tracked or anything like that. Looking to keep it under $1,000. I'm also buying OEM taillights tomorrow, I hate the ones that are on it now. Anyone know what they are?

Questions:
1. My speedometer doesn't work (the analog one). But the odometer works and the digital speedometer works as well. What could be the problem?
2. My passenger window doesn't work. I hear the motor turning on but it doesn't go up or down. Window regulator?
3. My seat belts don't retract, how would I fix that?
4. My clutch squeaks, do I just lube it up?
5. My e-brake barely works, I have to pull it up all the way to the top and it only catches a little bit, any way to adjust this?

Yeah I don't like them one bit. Found some oem ones locally for $140.

cool! Make sure it's the revised part. I can't remember what it is offhand but there are two different ones.

RE> The needle is “stuck.” The repair may require replacing the gauge. I’ve never done that so I do not know the cost

2. My passenger window doesn't work. I hear the motor turning on but it doesn't go up or down. Window regulator?
RE> This is a common problem with the Z. Cleaning the window motor fixes it, but just for a short time. I replaced my window motors for a true fix. It’s interesting that you mention the passenger side because it is usually the driver side window that is the problem. Of course, the basis is how many times the motor is engaged, so it could bed the passenger side is the driver side was rarely used and the main use was the passenger window.

3. My seat belts don't retract, how would I fix that?
RE> That is a safety device failure and covered by Federal Law. Return the car to any Nissan dealership for a repair that does not cost you anything.

4. My clutch squeaks, do I just lube it up?
RE> No. Your pressure plate is slipping. You need to replace this, and probably the entire clutch assembly.

5. My e-brake barely works, I have to pull it up all the way to the top and it only catches a little bit, any way to adjust this?
RE> I had the same problem. I had the dealership repair this. It was inexpensive so I assume it was an adjustment.

If both seat belts don't retract, that's a pretty good indicator of an airbag inflation. Too much of a coincidence, otherwise.

I'll just take it to the dealership and see how it goes.

It would really have to be local unless you want to ship yours first since these are my only wheels and I drive my car everyday.

It looks like your parking brake needs adjustment.

Have the seats been replaced? I don't recall seeing leather seats with no cruise control. Replaced seats might be another indication of previous airbag deployment.

In regard to your window problem, I’m not sure Spike has correctly interpreted the information you supplied. The power window motors are indeed a weak point in a Z. The motor brushes tend to wear down and lose electrical contact inside the motor. At this point the motor stops running or at best runs intermittently. If you can clearly hear the motor running, then (as you suspected) it may have become disconnected from the regulator. Possibly due to incorrect assembly by a previous owner.

After many years duty, it’s not uncommon to hear a single squeak when letting up the clutch pedal. You can hear it more clearly without the engine running. Usually this is a lack of liberation between the clutch-arm (that runs between the slave cylinder and the throw-out bearing) and the spherical shaped stud it pivots over. The man who services my Z simply peeled back the rubber boot on the bell housing and applied a dab of anti-seize lubricant with a stiff brush to the pivot ball. There are some excellent write-ups here on how to do this.

To adjust your E-brake, remove the ashtray (just pull it up and it will pop out) you will see a hole on the back face, look in and you'll find a nut, get a long reach socket or socket with an extension bar and screw clockwise to adjust, make sure E-brake is off when you do this. Adjust until your E-brake no longer points skywards.

Forgot to mention that i'm in agreement regarding your rear lights they're the most hideous i've seen on a Zed, i've only ever seen one other Zed wearing them thus proving the point.
It looks like you need an aerial unless the previous owner fitted an electric one.
I'd keep the wheels, i reckon they really suit the colour of the car and look better than OEM's

So helpful. I had the same problem with mine. The car looks nice! glad your getting rid of those taillights. Those things look weird. Those wheels really compliment the car's color, I wouldn't get rid of them because they look way better than stock.

About the leather seats without cruise-control; I zoomed in on the pic of the seats and could clearly see the Power, Cancel and the RES-ACC/COAST-DECEL rocker switch on the right spoke of the steering wheel.

I'm not a fan of the wheels, but its because I prefer the stock ones. These look good though. I've seen worse.

Great information about adjusting the parking brake. As long ad the pads are good and all the hardware is working well, an adjustment may be all that's needed.

I have an '06 and the whole tail light is an awesome and much sought after thing. I actually like the tail light lenses on this car. I've seen many that are much worse and these are actually an improvement over the stock '03-'05 IMO..

Curious about the seat belts and their link to the airbags.

Thanks for all the help guys! The car does have cruise control so I don't think the seats have been replaced. I picked up OEM taillights and will be putting them on today most likely. As for the wheels, I do like them just not since the car is stock height. I think it looks weird at stock height with aftermarket wheels. They're WedsSport SA-70 for the guy who asked what they were.

I will be buying a new window motor or at least checking to see if mine isn't properly connected. And thanks for the clutch answer, I will try to lube it up before actually replacing it.

I'd be willing to sell you some OEM wheels (18x8 - wheels off the performance model "touring V1" http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/350...ion-guide.html). The previous owner gave them some curb rash but they're all fine structurally. PM me if interested
