Default salesman picking car up personally.....normal?

Ok so today I finally get the call. My db enthusiast is at a dealer next to Boston, while im right next to NYC.

He said tomorrow at 5:30 hes going to personally get down there and drive the car down. I should be able to pick it up at about 2pm tomorrow.

Is this normal? I tend to believe that these cars are brought in on a truck.

The trip is a lil under 200 miles - Which kinda sucks now I got 200 miles of someone elses miles on my car. Dont mind though as im finally getting it.

Any feedback on this?

Maybe he's found a dealer sample car that goes on test drives that would be worth far less to sell to you, with the same options as you ordered. The whole trip alibi is just to disguise the fact that it will have miles on it when you pick it up...something does sound fishy here. Maybe you should call him and tell him to let the truck drop it off or something.

heh yeah I was thinking the same. Just to disguise that its already got miles on it.

Oh man I just remembered. He also said this one has a clear bra installed on it. Hope its not trying to cover up any paint.

Should I refuse buying the car if the mileage is over a certain amount?

Actually this is pretty common. It could be a brand new car, and he might just be doing a dealer exchange.

He might be going to get it himself so that he can expedite the sale before you change your mind/go to another dealer.

I bought my car this way...the car was at another dealer, and the salesperson I bought my car from said she could get here by the end of the day. I then just had them drop the price a bit below our negotiated price to compensate for the miles.

this works, especially once the car is delivered...the key is dont sign anything till the car is there and you convince them to drop the price a bit for the mileage

It's normal because a buddy of mine is a manager at an Acura dealership and got to drive a few NSX's around for swaps. Can't say if they'll push the car or anything so check it completely before taking it.

Yes it's perfectly normal. Though I wouldn't let them do this to mine. I had my car flatbedded See if you can do the same without incurring extra costs.

Yeah, when I purchased mine it had 90 miles on it and my dealer said he had just driven two cars to a dealer 80 miles away to swap for my DB Z (I checked where the dealer that he swapped with was located and it was about 80 miles away). So I think with that short of a distance they figured that it would be cheaper/quicker to get the car to me.

Don't worry too much they can't redline it the whole way to you (there have to be some stoplights somewhere

If you do want to wait longer and increase the cost, I guess you could insist that they flatbed it to you.

.....I have quickly forgotten about those extra 90 miles I didn't put on my car!

My salesman did the same with my Z and drove approximately 60 miles in a roadster to exchange for my track model. I didn't mind the miles since I got the car on the same day! Good luck with your purchase.

Why not just talk to the dealer and if you have the time, join him on a roadtrip. It's only an hour plus drive and he can drive you up there and you drive the Z back. Or if he really was an x rally car driver, ask him to do you a favor and baby it. He might just oblige to your request.

That's exactly what happened when my dealer found the car I wanted in New York. (I live in PA.) He told me they were going to get it and I could pick it up the next day. I asked if they were having it flat bedded to the dealership and I was told no, not unless I wanted to pay exta for that.

So, I asked it I could pick it up in New York. The dealer told me SURE... we're trading an automatic touring for your Performance.

I got to take new Touring up to New York and I picked up my Performance and drove it back to my local dealer. After it was back at the local dealer, they prepped it and filled my tank back up.

I wasn't going to let some salesman drive my car home from New York, so I did it myself.

I don't see any problems here. Ask if YOU can personally pick it up, if you have the time to do so.

He is trying to save you cash by not having it flat bedded in. Yeah, I would remind him about the break in period though.

Probably too late now, but I would have had him put a CarChip in the diagnostic plug so you could track how he drives it.

don't have one yet but know of several who do and they swear by it.

90% of dealer exchanges are done by the salesman.

I had a dealer exchange done (85 miles) and I haven't had any problems. I asked the salesman to go easy on it. Appears he did.

OMG-- You're gonna let somebody else drive the first +-200 miles on your Z huh? Definitely have them flatbed it over-- You're not buying a Honda-- you're buying a Z!!! It's worth a few extra bucks.
