Default Keeping away cats from chillin' on your car.

We had just built a simple car garage and since the first day I parked my car in there, every morning I would see traces of cat footprints (and even its fur) on my Z's hood or roof. I wouldn't mind if it chose the 6 other cars (in case you're interested to know; Toyota Corolla, Toyota Soluna, Honda Accord, two Daihatsu Terios, Nissan Cefiro) which belong to my siblings, but it seems like this little creature only chooses my car.

I own a car cover but I think it would be a hassle to put it on the car every single night just to avoid possible marks and scratches from cats. FYI, there are a lot of feral cats in my neighbourhood. Therefore, trying to talk to the owners isn't a choice since there is none. So I decided to find out what the internet has to offer and so far I've got two easy fixes without having to purchase any kind of cat-repellant spray/chemical:

1. "Place loops of duct tape over sheets of cardboard and position these sticky sheets over the top of your car, sticky-side up. If the cat attempts to sit on the car, the sticky feel of the tape on its paws will scare it away."

2. "Provide an outdoor shelter for your cat or other outdoor cats in the neighborhood which will serve as an attractive alternative to your car. Cut a hole in the side of a plastic storage box and line it with a soft blanket for the cat to use. Place the shelter in a location close to your car."

I like number 1 because it reinforces the cat to finally not even think of going near the car, she would probably need to experience this twice or thrice but in case she didn't give up (can't trust cats too much), option number 2 would be nice. Instant pet.

Care to share your ideas?

Other than catching them in action and spraying them with a hose, your best bet is to just put the car cover on.

I would also agree to just use the car cover, why don't you call your local aspca/animal control to catch it and take it away?

I've got 3 Alfa Spider's in my driveway, each with a custom Noah cover, and the cats loved to sit on them at night. Bad for the convertible tops, and they used to sharpen their claws in the cover material, too. We like the cats, and when I called our vet, she said to sprinkle the cars with cayenne pepper. I bought a large container in the imported foods aisle of the grocery store for just a few $, and sprinkled to roof on each covered car. The cats learned right away to stay off my territory.

Creepy fact - we live on a lake in S. Florida, and the first night I sprinkled the cars I happened to go outside at ~2am for a walk on a nice half-moon night. As I walked by one of the cars I noticed it was covered in 100's of huge roaches. I mean literally hundreds, and it freaked me out. The next morning I checked out the car covers, and there was not one single speck of cayenne anywhere on any of the 3 cars. A few years later, and still no cats on the cars.

seriously!? killing an animal is not the solution for a minor issue like this, its just a car. and if you was attempting to be funny, you both failed

I would recommend trapping them in a live trap and take it to animal control, or somewhere where it won't find it's way back.

My wife has three cats, and those little bastards are always pissing me off by jumping on the kitchen counters and our dining table. There is nothing that will stop them from doing whatever they want. The tape trick only works as long as the tape is always there. As soon as you take it off they'll be right back.

i mean it's not like the cat is gona steal your car or leave it on bricks with no wheels... just let it be - the hair will wash off and the scratches will buff out

I hated my ex's cat more than I liked her lol. I say get rid of them the old fashion way. Click click boom. If they are costing you money (scratches in paint or even a car cover) then get rid of them.

I mean.. Don't tell PETA on me but if I were in your shoes I'd either make a run to walmart and pick up a red rider or just give it a swift kick to the head when I saw it. Neither of those choices are enough to kill it. But still enough to teach it something. After all, cats are smart. Lol

^This ROFL. I suggest 1. Using car cover

2. Use a BB gun and pick one of those furballs off every now and again (they won't die from a BB gun pellet and they'll learn their lesson, I used BB guns on squirrels when I was a kid and they survived).

3. Pee around the area of your car, it's a form of marking your territory and I found it it works to repel skunks, dogs, raccoons, and possums so i'm guessing it will work with cats.

4. Moth ***** work as another repellent too if you don't want around your car smelling like ****.

5. Get some cat food and spike it with rat poison.

If any of you are serious about hurting the damn cats over your car, theres a nice room in hell for you all. OP, in my complex we have a squirrel infestation and they do the same thing. That's why I park in the garage. I asked my fiancee who is a vettech/ behaviorist, pissing on your car is marking territory, but it doesn't guarantee to have male cats mark your car. Un-nutered males are the ones that mark btw. My advice, get some humane traps and start catching the cats and taking em to a shelter or rescue.

anyway, your car is black and the sun will rape your cars paint after a while anyway so it really doesnt matter.

I'm assuming the stuff about poisoning or hurting the cat are intended to be funny (I don't find animal abuse funny).

Your best bet is to get a car cover. If they still roost on the top, put some double sided tape on the cover. It keeps them off furniture, it will keep them off your car.

You can just get some weed, cheetos and chill with the little fella. Maybe he's just looking for a friend. I say battle it until it's HP reaches near zero and throw a pokeball at it then heal it at the nearest pokemon center. After that you can go around the US and battle other people who have animals to collect gym badges to finally beat some dude named gary who's been mocking you since you were kids. Just remember, you have to sing "I wanna be, the very best, like no one ever was. To catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause. I will travel across the land, searching far and wide. These cats sleeping on my Z, will know the power that's inside!"
