Default 08 350

HI
Let me start by saying I'm a 40 something guy looking for a toy.
Paid the house off last yr so got some money to burn.
Was thinking on getting a gently used 05-06 cayman but that whole ims failure scares hell outta me.

any way was leving the honda dealer after picking up brake fluid for my dd civic si
and noticed a 08 350Z in the used section so I had to check it out.
The salesman comes out basically threw me the keys and let me take it out
alone. (he sold me the SI)
I must say I never really considered a 350 but after the test drive I am very interested.
The clutch took a little getting use too compared to da honda but
also has 100hp more...lol

The only issue I have is it is an American 350Z with 6000 miles on it
I live in canada.
The carfax they have is clean which is probably the case but I did a search with some online thing and it said it had 10 hits for the car but of course wanted me to pay to see.

I like the fact Nissan has built that engine ever so I believe the 350's to be reliable.
Is ther anything to look for?
Clutch, tranny?

Here is a link to the beast
http://www.huntclubhonda.com/en/used...spy?id=5124435

Im tempted to throw a 19k offer at him see what happens.

any comments would be great...my wife told me that I shouldn't buy it until I try a Cayman

It is imported from the USA
Details the dealer has are minimal

The speedo has the MPH bigger then KPH
screwed me up going down a side street at 60mph instead of 60km

and the odometer is in miles he says he can't put it in KM's...
kinda wierd im pretty sure it can be changed with one of the cluster buttons.
I would probably consider getting a canadian cluster if it wasnt too expensive.

Your wife is right, test drive the Porsche before buying. Only problem I have with my HR is the slave cylinder recall years ago, it's been a great car so far.

GL with your decision.

I just recently purchased a 08 350z base with 23k miles on it and love it. I dont know if this helps with your decision but I had a "spirited" run with a 2013 Boxster S and the performance seems to be really close with the edge going to the Z speed wise, not sure about the Cayman though. Personal opinion; if what you drive aka "status" isn't really a concern get the Z...same amount of fun for less money to buy and maintain. Never hurt to have the car inspected by another trusted repair shop before final sale no matter what you get..reputable of course.

I have never heard of the slave cylinder thing
This thing is suppose to have all recalls.

One thing I do like even if this thing is 5yrs old 6000 miles is nothing and
8-10000 cheaper then the porche.
Almost seems to good to be true

My car was 2 months old when I received the letter... I wasn't happy with it but all is well in the end. Never had any problem with my car except modification complication. It has been a great car from what I've experienced.

Look in the HR section... there is a HUGE thread about this issue and the 370's have it as well. Here is the letter I received back in 2007:

Not bad, especially since it's a manual.

From what I've gathered... it doesn't matter if your vin # fall into this category or not. If you go through that thread I linked you, I can assure you, 08' members have this problem too. Granted, it was discovered back in 2007 but the curse is still there. I know several local members with HR/370 have this problem.

Note: it depend on your driving habit. I read, it only happens (clutch stuck to the floor) on multiple hard launches. I don't ever launch my car hard so therefore never encountered this problem.

Don't let this be a deal breaker because no car is perfect. Again my car has been great with zero problems so far.

That is not a GT. No Brembos, no Nav. It might be a well dressed Touring Edition.

While I was searching for my Z I ran into a ton of mis-advertised Z's. I read the sticky that covers the top 100 questions about 350Z's https://my350z.com/forum/3724406-post32.html and found the "car of my dreams." After offering a price and being willing to compromise, the dealer refused. While I was upset to a degree, and opened my options. I then bought a car of higher trim, one year newer (2008 Grand Touring, vice the 2007 Touring I was looking at) for the same money I offered for the Touring.

Moral of the story: the 2008 Grand Touring was the ONLY accurately identified 350Z I found.

Ooo... did not read the ad, fail on the stealership for false advertising. Now, this is a deal break if price is not right.

hmm
I know they don't want to keep it long.
And there is a limited market.
They are asking 22
maybe I will give em a 17500 offer and see what he says.
that would be 20k tax in.

doubt they will do that until it sits a while but all they can say is no.

I'm going to tell them its a base not a gt and Im going to have to spend 1000 on a new
cluster...lol

If I could get it for that even if I didn't like it I could probably sell it next year and not loose much at all.

I love my 2008 Silver Alloy Base. As long as you take all precautions that you should take with any used car sale (also ask the dealer if they'll show you the Carfax themselves, they usually will) you won't regret buying a Z.

First of all,you sound like a smart guy.In addition, most Canadians I know are,
shall I say,"thrifty".In the area I live here in the U.S.,we'd call it tight azz when
it comes to spending the bucks.I'm sure you know that being a RWD car with
some substantial HP,it not the best car to drive in the winter where you live.
A Z is very reliable.I'vehad mine for 10 years.No major problems.As already
mentioned, the Z you are looking at is not a grand touring.ID'ing Z's properly
is a common malady by car dealers.Sometimes a buyer gets lucky when
the dealer sells a TracK model as a Enthusiast.
At 6k,the car is basically new.It has a warranty.
I like the Cayman. However,I think you'll be in for a surprise when it comes to parts
and getting the car worked on.Most wives don't consider this.A 350 is very reasonable
when it comes to parts, mods if you are so inclined.

I bought a 08 350z automatic a couple of months ago. I love my decision so far. Plenty of performance and it looks amazing!

Us canadians tight...lol no

I am not worried about winter I have my Si a 4x4 chevy and the wife has
a 2012 tiguan with 4motion...not to mention the lund

I realize the Porsche would be much more to maintain even if doing
most myself.
They are suppose to be super smooth but I am starting to doubt
it is 10000 dollas smoother.
I can't stop thinking about the 350 the shape and the miles are very
attractive.

I will have to look into the the warranty it is 5 years old so I figured all warranty was done.
Not sure if a Canadian dealer will honor a USA warranty something for me to check....that isnt a show stopper for me.

Gonna call insurance today to see the difference between the cayman and 350 but i have a feeling it will be close to double...even if i am an ol fart.
Then I gonna havta go back and take a more serious test drive/look
