Don't sweat the guys who hate the 5AT. They'll be screwing around with their POS CSC clutch and bad synchronizers while you're cruising happily down the road with your bullet-proof transmission. The bonus is that the 5AT shifts faster than 95% of the guys on this forum without breaking a sweat.

BTW, you can download the OM several places. Here's one:

Akim, just “Google Nissan 2008 350Z owner’s manual” and you will find a dozen sites where you can download a free manual.
You can’t really screw up in selecting gears manually, as an electronic nanny will override your input if it feels you’re making bad choices. Sometimes I wish my life had that feature.
Japanese cars with manual select autos just seamlessly take back shifting control if you are doing something foolish, and they don’t make a big deal out of it. German cars take a different route. Germans love cars and afford them protection under law. A version of Florida’s Stand Your Ground law is extended to ‘das automobil’. If car thinks your ham-handed shifting is about to cause grievous bodily harm or death, it’s authorized to send a tazer like jolt of electricity out of the shifter. If that doesn’t dissuade you from doing dumb ****, it’s further authorized to keep upping the voltage!

Maybe you should have asked before you bought? You moron go on line get manual. The AT option is ok all you guys think if you have an at your a Barbie. I will put up my pink slip andb prove that an at is just as fast as a manual.
This topic along with this sentence has been beaten to death since before time.
But I still really don't get why people think they're hot stuff for driving a manual. Lol welcome to most of the world. I got my AT because it's more practical for me, where I live, and it came with every possible option for it's year.
Can't really say "why get an AT sports car". High end exotics and sports cars mostly don't have clutch pedals. Fastest drag cars in the world are automatics. Reason? AT's are faster and eliminate human error. Only thing is more parasitic loss through AT, that can be corrected with more powah...
I would say the correct word for AT cars is BORING, not *****
To each his own I guess.

I feel there's a divide in this forum now - sports car enthusiasts/drifters/racers/track enthusiasts, and newcomers who now that Z's can be had for less than a civic, think an automatic roadster is cool.
To answer the OP though, move the "shifter" down and to the side, where it probably has a little + and - sign, then move it up and down to "upshift" or "downshift" the lower the number on your "gauge cluster" near the speedometer/tachometer probably... the lower the gear = more acceleration.

LOL you guys are funny but thnx for the advice , SO Many haters hahaha , i don't race all the time so im good with auto and plus i drive to school a lot and there is always traffic. i dont wanna deal with clutch problems. AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!
Clutch problems are only caused by people that can't handle a clutch. I live and commute in Los Angeles and I love the 6-speed on my Z. If the clutch and the fact that you "don't race all the time" are your reasons go drive auto like a middle-aged woman and gtfo.
