Default 2003 vs 2007

I've already searched the forum about this but couldn't find anything on it...

I've wanted a 350z for a long time and 2003 track was what I wanted then I learned starting in 2007 they had put in engines with more HP so naturally I wanted the one with more power but I plan on modifying mine and thought since the 2003 versions had been around longer that there's gonna be more options for that one. But it's also 2013 so the 2007 should have a lot more options right? Which is better for modding the engine?

You searched the whole forum and interwebs and couldn't find mod options for both engines..? Each engine has mod options yes. Both are pretty extensive at this point.

I got the 2003 Track Model and it's modded (FI) 491hp. Happy as can be. It's all up to you. The more you mod, the better to get the less cost car and then put the $ into the car. I wouldn't change mine for HR, but then I'm happy at where I'm at and it gets me there quick enough. Far as I'm concerned hr is no better than previous, it's what you put into it to make it what it is. It's all up to his own.

You will find plenty of options available for both. Some of our members, after an extensive search, have found a 2003 Track with less than 50,000 miles. That would be a nice catch.

Stock vs stock the HR is probably the better deal. But since you are going to mod it, I'd go DE....can't argue with the above 491hp

I just picked up an 03 Track. $9500 out the door... It was owned by an older lady who drove it 1:30 round trip everyday since she bought it. Came with all the service records and rock chis she collected over the years. 130K on it and still running like it came out of the showroom. Can't beat the Rays wheels with the Brembo's poking through

An older z is just as good generally as a newer if you don't mind not having the hr motor. It's fun to drive everyday and just as reliable

on thing that sucks about the HR's are all the clutch issues....that is my only complaint, well other than parts seem to be more expensive. the clutch issue is easily resolved by getting the Zspeed master and slave combo

DE is fine for both NA and FI routes. Really I'd base the decision off of the look of the different models and the known issues with the transmissions. I have a DE and put in the CD009 transmission, but fully plan on keeping the car for a long time. I've completed pretty much every bolt on mod I can do, and am getting a re-tune to get these headers dialed in. Realistically, I'm never going to push this car to its absolute limits...neither on the street or the track until I get more experience. I don't care about going fast in a straight line either. If you're wanting to go out and drag race, don't buy a Z at all. You're better off in a mustang. Otherwise, no matter the year Z you buy you're going to get a very well balanced car. This forum will nickel and dime every tiny thing they can think of from intake temps on short rams, the weight of the car, how much better the HR is, blah blah blah. Just look for major maintenance items. For me, it was going to be cheaper in the long run to just swap the transmission vs. selling it and buying a newer HR. I've also updated the headlights and tail lights to the newer 06 style and replaced all of the halogen bulbs throughout with white LEDs. I've done things to make it look updated. Now in an all out drag will I beat an HR? Maybe a stock one. Do I care? No.

I just enjoy the feel of the car and its styling.

All depends on your budget and what you want to do with the car. Both models are awesome. If you just plan on driving the car stock for a while or modding here and there and have a big budget then get the HR but if your budget isn't that big and your trying to save money then get the DE. The HR obviously performs a little better and looks better but it all comes down to how much money you want to spend.

I like the looks of the earlier tracks models over the hr z for some reason. Get the de if you plan on mods since buying a de would be cheaper than buying an hr and you'll save money to buy more mods on the de.
