Default Engine swapping in my 350z

Hey guys, I have got a 2004.5 350z convertible, I am considering buying a second motor for it to build and to swap later on down the road (and to have the stock motor as a spare or whatever).
My question is that im looking on ebay and seeing VQ35HRs for around the same price as the DEs, would these motors bolt up with my transmission? Also I know ill probably have to change out my ECU, but is there anything else or any problems that I would run into while doing this swap? or should i just go ahead and find another DE?

Pretty sure tranny will bolt up fine, I know the headers are a bit different and you'll definitely have to swap ECUs. I'm interested in this as I'll be doing pretty much the same thing.

There's an awful lot of info on an HR swap if you search.

The short answer is an HR will NOT swap easily into a DE powered Z without a lot of work. As one who has done this with a Z racecar, as documented in the late, great Nissan Sport Magazine, I can only say you'll need almost the entire front clip of an HR as so many parts are different. The bigger problem is the HR's have many more connections coming into the ECM and will not function properly without throwing a CEL because of this. If your state requires emissions testing and requires no CELs to show up, you can forget about getting it registered for street use.

Thanks for the info! I'll just go ahead and just get another DE engine to build then.
