has anyone tried putting on 225/45 17s on their Z? do you think this would be safe to put these all around?

That seems awful small for the rear... I think the 235/50's in back are too small. Is there a reason you want to downsize? Also, your TCS/VDC may freak out if you have identically sized tires all around.

reason is cuz the set of from my maxima is lying around. eventually i'd like to put them on the Z. don't have TCS, etc. I'm base. I was thinking about the load of the tires.

Yup, that's too small for the rear. You have to maintain the staggered tire sizes for the ABS, Traction Control and VDC to function properly.
