Default hr swap?

Hey guys currently own a 350z 03 and it has high miles and im thinking when time comes I want to put a HR motor in it. I read a thread(only one I found) but the dude didn't finish his project. Has anyone done it or know anything about it? What will I need to change besides the obvious?

Thanks!

its more then swapping an engine in. You gotta do the wiring harness and everything that goes with it. might as well just go FI or LS if you are going to be spending so much money or sell it and buy a newer Z with HR already in which will hold its value alot better.

Why not just put a newly built DE?

So you have to swap some harnesses, and perhaps consider swapping gearbox and clutch out as well depending on miles... I don't know why these people say don't do it. I'm sure you could get a decent HR from a totaled 2006+ Z for a good deal. If you're lucky you can find plenty of perfectly good bits at a local junk yard. Many people have been doing LS swaps successfully and while it is not as simple as legos, it certainly isn't impossible.

I don't think you should be discouraged from this!! I haven't performed an engine swap myself but will do some digging. First thing that comes to my mind is double air filter and inlet. not sure how mounting would work for that in a non-HR engine bay.

I have been doing research my self its quite a bit of money but not as much as going FI I don't think. I can get a used motor with 80k for $1500.00 that's not including the harness and ecu. I know I'd have to change the hood as well. How about the tranny?

Right right. I slipped hard there, it's been a rough morning...

Everyone has pitched in good things to be aware of.

In regards to $1,500 for a HR VQ3.5 w/ 80k miles... that seems steep. I haven't done much research but if that is the case for just base block then I would stay away from the project.

Would be nice If you can find a totalled 2007+ Z. preferably with some serious rear end destruction. Then you can get as much of the drive train bits as possible....

Find a lower mileage DE engine and swap it, take current high mileage engine and rebuild it, or LS swap, these are your options OP

The gains are not worth the time, money, and headache.

As others have said: FI DE, or LS swap are your best options.

The replacement engine and some tools. Your '03 already has a DE.
