Potential new Z owner
hi all, i do not currently own a Z, but i really want to get one soon. I figured it would be ebst to do some research on this car before i look into it. I have never posted before but i have read a bit and i love this site. There are so much information and products on this site that i cant wait to get my Z.
I do have some questions. What are, if any, the typical problems associated with the Z? What can be done to solve these problems? Those are the only questions i have right now, tia
-Jack
P.S.-I have already read the thread on first mods for the Z. It was an amazing thread and very very informative.

If you're gonna get a new 04' Z, then it'll be problem-free just like mine!
Yes early 03 models had lots of problems, but mine's perfect so far at 7500km

Just saw your location and thought I would chime in. I don't post much yet either. Anyway, good luck buying your Z. I hope to have mine within a month. Maybe I will see you on the road.

i looking at 04 z's and this is still a preliminary stage in purchasing, i am very very glad to hear that the 04's dont have many problems b/c ive been reading about tire feather, etc. I do not mind the harshness or the ride, thats what a sportscar is all about, sacrificing luxury to a point to achieve performance.
Thanks for all help so far, i have also looked at the invention forum and was amazed at the stuff created by my350.com members and will surely be ordering when i get my z

Assuming your going to keep up with maintance and not abuse the car, I can think of a reason it won't be as reliable as virtually all Japanese cars; i.e. very reliable. I personally do not think the extanded warranty is needed. But if your a belt & suspenders type, get it.

maintenence (sp?) will defnitely be kept up, and at what point does hard driving cross over to abuse? and what abuse do u mean?
i will not, drop the clutch except for a few times in the cars life, dont go to the track ever, maybe will to see what it runs, i do, however, have some jackass friends who have a tendency to act out and need to be put in their place if u know what i mean but that shouldnt be to hard

You'll be fine. Hard driving doesn't mean abuse at all. Not following the maintenance schedule does. As with most cars the most important is fluids. Engine oil/filter, Transmission & differential, etc. The first major service for this car doesn't occur until 102,000 miles. As for the extended warranty, I purchased it only because the 03 is a first year production & you never know what could happen. I understand the 04 models aren't experiencing the same issues as the 03 but no one can say for sure how the cars will hold up long term. Hopefully it will be as awesome as my Z31.
