Default This winter sucksssss

So this winter blows and a decent storm hit us again, attempting to put the Z in my driveway which is at a slightly higher degree of an angle than what is shown in the picture.

Make it halfway up (with summer tires mind you) and my dad comes outside and is like "let me push you up". I'm like okay, thanks dad!

Next thing I know he is in his car and wants to push it up with his CAR I'm just like nOOOOOOOO do NOT touch it!!!! wtf

I don't care if it's a 99% chance of making no mark on my Z, I will not risk the 1%. So it's staying there... for now... lol

Do you guys drive your z in winter? If not what cars do you have for that?

I never drive my z in snow.

If you try to drive your Z in the winter on summer tires you're going to have a bad time.

Use all weather it helps with cold and eliminate road noise as oppose to summer tires.

Justin, if your Z has Traction Control (any model other than a base) you need to temporally turn it off for situations like this. The Zs TC reacts to any amount of wheel spin by killing engine power. If your old drivers-ed instructor’s advice about easing on the throttle isn’t getting the job done, then you must throw out finesse and resort to brute force. Spinning the tires vigorously will burn down to bare pavement and at least get you up that little slope.

It has certainly been a very punitive winter.

You are right to be cautious. For sure your Dad’s well intentioned help would have resulted in considerable and expensive damage.

Also… summer/performance tires are useless when it gets below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and downright dangerous and not drivable below freezing temperatures.

Jennifer 2’s advice is right on. If your car won’t move on ice, turn off TCS (VDC if our car is equipped with this).

For normal winter driving, keep TCS and/or VDC turned ON.

My Z has been in the garage since November. I drove it on NYE because its my birthday-the roads were clear-and it was semi warm.

Everyday since then I have wanted to move back to NC. This winter does suck. Too damn cold, too much damn snow, and I have a feeling its going to extend into late May.

Last year was a better winter. This year it's been brutal, low temps and too much snow.

My 350Z is my DD and I drive it in all weathers and the thing that makes it driveable in snow is fitting winter/cold weather tires. These things make such a difference and give me such confidence. Yeah the initial outlay is a bit of a pain but when you weigh up that for six months of the year you wear one set of boots and for the other six months you wear your winter boots the only extra cost is a set of four gnarly winter wheels that you're not bothered about getting salt damage on them. Come spring and summer out come the shiny rims with summer tires. Also switching the TCS on and off depending on conditions can make the world of difference in keeping your Z moving forward. The best $$'s I ever spent was going on a skid pan for a couple of hours, it does wonders for your confidence, throttle and car control and arms you with the skills needed to regain control of your car when its sliding out of control down the road.

I couldn't agree with samsniss more. With the Z being my only car, it must handle any weather. Just have to switch over to winter wheels and tires before the first snowfall.
And winter tires are not a place to save $$$. I don't ever find my Z struggling in the snow when I see other RWD and FWD spinning at stop signs, a quality winter tires will make a world of difference

I daily drove my Z for 3 years in San Diego then moved back to Iowa. I bought an 05 Mazda3 hatch for winter duty it had near new tires on it. I drove my Z in between October snow and clearings up until December 6th (2 days before my bday). Once I came to terms that there wasn't gonna be another clearing*until Spring, I stored the Z and hunkered down in the hatchie. First snow I was iffy on getting out on the road and spun the tires a bit (it's a 5 speed) I thought I wasn't being gentle enough with the gas. Turns out I have near new all weather tires not all season (or vice versa I dont know which is which; I just know I have the worse verson). I get stuck and slide everywhere. I got stuck backing down a slight hill after leg day at the gym-no clutch control.

I only drive 10 mins to work so I'm not getting winter tires unless im here next year. Plus it makes ebrake drifting that much easier!

I was just thinking todsy that snow tires or not, I dont have the ***** to drive the z in bad weather. I was scraping the windshield and my zipper kept hitting the paint of the mazda-a critical failure for anyone near the Z.

/f&*k winter rant

I am actually enjoying this winter. I'm getting married in the fall and making the move to Florida so I know this will be my last winter like this.
