Default First upgrades to my new 06

Hey guys just got an 06 last Friday. I already realize its a base model, doesnt get sideways due to open diff im guessing. anyways, i figured my first upgrades should be an LSD with nice solid bushings. And maybe some cosmetics. The mileage is right at 70,000.

The good thing is that it runs extremely smooth and doesnt look molested at all. I want to do this one right, so Im open to any/all suggestions.

congrats.. i appreciate your modding plan according to what you wanna do with the car..

changing the Diff and solid diff bushings, the best thing u can do.

you can simply swap your diff pumpkin with another 350z/370z Manual VLSD pumpkin if you dont wanna go through the hassle of opening your diff.

you can go with whiteline poly diff bushings.. am runing these with 370z vlsd ( shorter ratio 3.7 instead or 3.5)

Will any year work for the pumpkin?? and Im guessing the 370z, since its newer and probably stronger, is the better of them right? Yeh in the Long picture I plan on mildly building for single turbo, around 6 psi. Nothing crazy, And if and when i plan sell her i know the person who buys wont kill themselves. Im keep my pics posted,

Whats the price range between the 350/370 pumpkin

any year will work.. as long as the car manual.. i went for 370z pumpkin direct swap. even g37 coupe pumpkin will work.

price depends! but make sure the pumkin you buy is VLSD.. you can know by rotating one side and the other side should rotate in the same direction.

Yeh I knew that, acts like posi. Sucks i even have to do this, would be nice to already have it and a button lol.

So If the car had generated enough power to get sidways under acceleration, how would my base model handle this with the open diff. WOuld one tire just start spinning faster untill the car momentum caught up?

the z already have enough power stock to go sideways.

open diff will slide for sure but a car equiped with VLSD will drift easier.

u can go drift driver side with open diff but drifting other side will be hard.

both wheels will spin the same speed.. until in turns or water spots or more load going on one side.. then one wheel will stop spining.

vlsd lock both wheels with only 30%. if you want to go pro and get more lock you can buy an aftermarket LSD.. such as OS-Giken or Quaife..

i think the gearing in the 370 diff is a little different too, and with the solid bushing you will get more road noise in the cabin, i noticed it with my poly's so keep that in mind too

Yeah an LSD is the way to go, I can slide my auto around like a dog on a leash. But after reading this I'm interested in getting an aftermarket LSD.
But I want to know what you mean by it locks both wheels with 30% can you explain it with more detail and what the difference would be? I know a decent bit but Idk about drivetrain stuff really.

the factory VLSD is not a mechanical LSD.. its got a clutch type that lock the diff through clutch using fluid.. thats why they call it Viscous Limited slip diff.. and the power of lock in the VLSD is only 30% .

hopefully someone with more technical info can chime in if u need more info

Solid bushings aren't that much louder IMO. Just a slight whine noise, but with my exhaust and no cats I barely notice it.

I think the problem I'm having understanding is what the power of lock is/does and its 30% of what? Like it locks and won't give tires more than 30% of the power or...?

I told you I don't know jack about drivetrain XD in the meantime ill do more research to help myself understand

If you want a little extra power the Rev Up engines make a fair amount of hp gains with the Motordyne MREV2. A plenum spacer is great as well. Next big power thing for NA setup without going into engine internals would be test pipes. Other than that, for handling you are going the right direction with what everyones telling you, but you could look into swaybars for a fairly modest price.

Well I did my research and what I got is that the vlsd would be giving one side power at a time compared to LSD like quiafe it would always give power to both. But I couldn't find anything about the 30% thing so am still on the dark on what that means..

Well I dont plan on beating the **** out of it. I want to get sideways and am a pretty damn good driver. But i like doing 165 just as much as getting sideways going 40-60. I just need to research and find a nice set-up that suits my power needs and sliding needs. Shes completely stock so i have a lot to think about.

Please share your guys pics and suggestions... I made a jump into the 350z world. Came from a line of rotarys and SR20s.

P.S. The 350z/g35 is the best sounding stock car for the money.

one question about the plenum spacer....since this adds more air in the "intake" shouldnt it get tuned for the difference in air/fuel ration?? Or does the motor compensate itself?? was skeptical about this but this seems like its going to be my first upgrade with the pop charger... I refuse to run a CAI because two of my friends..one with an s2k and the other with a 350 both water locked there motors from this.
