Default bastards key-ing Zs

anyone get there cars key-ed yet by punk *** mo fos yet?

i keep an eye out on my car every 5 minutes when im sitting at my work. i get scared, even when a car parks next to mine, and i watch the poor bastards so they wont hit my car while they open their door. sometimes i lock my doors to indicate that i am watching my car, and people stay the f*ck back. sometimes when im out shopping or whatever, im always worrying about my car, if i locked it or maybe i accidently open the trunk while the remote was in my pocket, and i always end up going back and checking it.

i think this is a disease.
anyone have this syndrome?

maybe its because iZ is my first car...

Try to lighten up a little bit. The day WILL come when you're going to get a ding somewhere on your car. If your car is an everyday driver, it's inevitable. And you know what? Going back and checking every so often probably won't delay that day when a breeze blows that shopping cart into your door or fender. Constantly worrying about it will only make things worse when that day comes. Accept it.

Now, as for worrying about people keying your car...if some a-hole sees how obsessed or worried you are about it, he/she will automatically know how to cause the most damage to your psyche. Don't give them that satisfaction.

Is this a disease? Possibly. It's called OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), but I certainly wouldn't deign to make a diagnosis from just one posting. Two, maybe.

I can see people keeying cars when people set their alarms off or lock the doors just because someone is walking by it...those type of compulsive retards deserve to get keyed.

It's metal and plastic, not a human. But to tell the truth, I felt the same way about my bike when I first got it. It sucks when someone messes with your stuff, but in reality there is nothing you can do about it. Let go and enjoy the Z even more.

350zWhite04: don't feel bad. I do the same thing. When I drive to work, I park my car the furtherest away from anyone I can and in such a way that i can see it from my office window.

This being my first new car, I think it's understandable I do agree though with dchengmd that if someone who has a predication to key a car sees how paranoid you are about it, they will do it solely for spite.

(people can suck).

What pisses ME off the most when I park my car in some remote region of a lot and someone INSISTS on parking right next to me though there are hundreds of unused spaces elsewhere. Makes you wonder if they think it'll increase the quality of THEIR car by proximity.

Just out of curiosity, did you get the Ding Protection warranty? I was able to get my dealer to throw it in for free and it has really reduced the amount of stress I feel.

Be Well!

What ever happened to that guy who was going to sabbatoge the kids down the street who were egging and keying cars? It seemed like he had a whole crew of people set up, hidden in bushes and surveillance vehicles... it sounded like a funny story... but I never read what happened in the end? Anyone remember this? I think the story was posted sometime last fall???

Man was I glad to read your post. The same thing happens to me all the time. I make sure I always park the heck AWAY from all other cars (I suffer from a similar though less intrusive disorder as our friend in Maryland) and whenever I come back I'm bound to find another car parked next to mine. I have yet to understand what crosses these peoples' minds but am glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I guess we're going to have to start carrying those orange construction cones and setting them down on either side of our cars. Though I wouldn't doubt those same people would MOVE the damn cones to park next to us anyhow. I tell you, you just can't win.

You could do as I did and get a two way alarm with the proximity alert. That way it warns them if they are too close and tell you if the alarm goes off. Hopefully you would be close enough to catch the a$$ that bumped you.

I used to be like you when I got my car (not a Z yet)...but I realized it's pointless to worry...just enjoy it for what it is...have fun and enjoy life

Dont worry about people eating in your car, etc (unless its messy/smelly, etc.) I used to say no to drinking in the car but I was like screw it, I own the car, not the other way around

Theres nothing you can do. Its one of the risks you run when owning a nice car. Try not to think about it too much.

Hmm... I've got a Pikes Peak White 04 base 350z which is my first NEW car..., and, like the original poster, am PARANOID as hell when it comes to my car. I park only on the corners of parking lots to reduce the chances being dinged by 1/2. I avoid parking under trees. When I go to the store, I shop QUICKLY. I'm already on my 4th layer of Zaino. I keep my windows rolled up always to help keep that new car smell for as long as possible.

To sum things up... the thought of two things occuring bothers me like hell:

someone keying my baby AND
door dings.

I'll keep fighting to the end.

I've had the following:

--All "Z" badges ripped off (pried off with a screwdriver I'm assuming by the marks)
--Key across front driver's panel.
--Key across driver's door.
--Key across right rear 1/4 panel.
--White paint impact scrape across driver's side rear 1/4 panel

Whats funny is that I'm about 90% certain I know who did all they keying and debadging. But such is life. Its just a piece of metal, and quite frankly it just means that I'll be able to repaint and get a custom color one of these days, with my insurance footing most of the bill. . .

Just remember to never let "... the things you own own you ..."

At my apartment complex, the garage parking has 8 spaces that can be parked in without someone being able to park next to you. In addition, there are 3 cars that never move(they have been parked in the same location since I've lived here). Those 3 cars all make it so I can park between them and a support post, so again, no one can park next to me.

At the grocery store, I park as far away as I can, drives my GF nutz. At work I park right up front where our receptionist can see my Z. You can only park on one side of me there, the other side is a light pole.

That being said, I have 2 small dings, when I get a 3rd I'll have them removed with paintless dent removal, because I have a guy who will do up to 3 for $150.

Its funny, because although I hated my saturn, the one thing I enjoyed not woring about, was it getting dinged. I swear you could kick the door on that thing and it would pop right back out like a damn rubbermaid trashcan.

I used to freak out too when I bought my 03 Touring.

However, I've already had my car swiped while it was parked (ripping front bumper and bending front right fender slighly) and I have a very small door ding on the ridge of the driver side door.

I kind of got over it. There is nothing I can do.

Luckily I live next to a Nissan Dealer and the area is fairly saturated with Z's which means mine is less of a target.

My only worry is joyriders...

I'm looking into one of those alarm/keyless entry fobs that also has a killswitch in the starter and a 2 -way radio to the keyfob.

If anyone knows of a good brand that does both, PM me please =P

Isn't the Z already pretty difficult to hotwire and take for a joyride? The engine will not start unless the key is in the ignition, and the key needs to be specially coded to match with the car.
