Default There is a RECALL for certain VIN 350z's

I guess not many are affected, but whoever falls within this VIN MUST take their car to Nissan. It's potentially very dangerous.

http://www.nissanusa.com/form/0,,act...-51054,00.html <--go there and select 350 then 2003 in the next box

"Reason for Recall
On some 2003 350Zs, there is a possibility that the engine might stop running while being driven if the crank position sensor fails. This may also result in the "Service Engine Soon" light coming on or reduced engine power. If the engine stops running while driving, this could result in a crash without warning."

Looks like it pertains to the earliest Zs according to the article.

Well it's not really an article, it's factual info straight from nissan I say that because when people see "article" they get the wrong impression.

But anyways, I really hope the word gets out to the Z owners with those VINS.

Vic, make this a sticky?

Ok ok, I'm a newb, how do I read this Vin range?

JN1AZ*4**3T 000001 - 100167

That seems to be more than "146" cars to me (000001 to 100167)

What do the *'s mean anyways?

There may only be 146 cars that actually got delivered in that VIN range. They might have sent a few for crash tests / racing program / etc. . .

I know my car was serviced in early January and I 1st heard of the problem in early Dec.
I'm happy that you felt this was important enough to make a post. Thanks

Phile

Thanks for the post.

This affects me and I didn't receive a letter and I didn't know anything about it.

No problem guys

Wow, Nissan should mail this stuff out. I'm very disappointed in them. My car is in storage, and I don't believe I'm affected, but I wanted to make sure everyone knows. Just looking out for my fellow Z owners

Redline, It's good to know I got to one person atleast. Help spread the word, because you never know what could happen. Take care of it sooner rather than later!

I got a mailer from my dealer, but i checked online at another dealer and they said i didn't need it. Vin#288 Well, i just hope it's not 1-100167, did they make that many cars??? I doubt it. I think it was only the first 167 Z cars.

My understanding is that there were 2 production lines. The cars from one line start with 0, the other with 1. Therefore if the first 2 cars are off the 0 line they are 000001 and 000002, and if the third car made came of the 1 line that car was 100003, and so on.......

My car is "resting" for the winter. I am going to my dealer Monday to set up appt.

No, no, no. The 1 in the 6th spot from the end only designates whether your Z has side air bags or not. That's all.

Doesn't the 8th digit do that?

This is pretty old. It only pertains to the Z's built in or before July 02. These are among the very first pre-orders.
