Default Introducing myself!

Not exactly sure if there's an Introduction thread (please move this if there is)

Names Marcus, I've been on the forum for a little less than a year now just researching and looking at past posts, etc, reading stories and that.

Got a 92,000mi Black Track base 350Z for $6000 back in March. Since then I've added 5/16" Plenums, a buffed out V2 Intake Manifold (Think that's what it's called) K&N Drop-in, thinking about getting a CAI just for the looks, who ever owned the car before me already replaced the OEM Injectors with what I think said 550CC Injectors, and he did some exhaust work because my vroom vroom is louder than most other Z's I meet, and a basic tune-up (spark plugs, belts, etc). Just figured I'd say thanks for letting me leech and not tracking me down and burning me at the stake!

Some personal stories:

When I was 4 my mom bought a 2000 MR2 Toyota Spyder, hoping one day she'll learn to drive it. To this day she doesn't have a license. When I was 16, my mom gave me the keys to a 20,000 mile Spyder. 4 years later an effin Jetta pins my beautiful Spyder into a tree, blames me for the accident (obviously it's my fault she crossed the double yellow line, came into my lane from the opposing lane, and just swept me into a tree) and ends up giving me $10,500 as play money once my car insurance (Geico) went H.A.M. to prove her wrong . about $3000 went to my student debt . Car only had 40,000 miles on it.

THIS CAR IS A BEAST.

Coming from a military family who races all types of cars - government and personal - I've gained a lot of driving experience and can honestly say not many people can try to outpace me. I've even taken on a 2014 Subaru WRX STI Impreza and destroyed the punk. Sure he took off faster than me, but the fool didn't have the experience to handle the turns... Smh. I honestly haven't taken the Z to the track (unlike my spyder).

What's really funny is, in my MR2 Spyder people would say "Nice Porsche"... The spyder is called the Poor mans Porsche after all... In this more renowned car, I still get the "Nice Porsche" compliment!
Guess that's all I have to share for now, maybe more in the future!

Also, one tiny question.
There's a bumper with a "hole" (air scoop?) connected to the air filter. Does the air scoop even do anything efficiency/performance wise? If it does, I would be extremely interested in it. Should I buy a new bumper with the air scoop or just make my own air scoop?
http://www.southerncarparts.com/imag...coop_b_600.jpg for aid.

Thanks,

Marcus

Nice to meet you Marcus

New guy here as well, just picked mine up at the beginning of the month.

What year is the car? Got any pics? Track and Base models are two different things. Sorry to hear about the MR2 but it's kind of a girly looking car anyway.

I believe the stock injectors are 290cc @ 43.5psi. So those 550cc's are only spraying at +/−50%. You sure the car wasn't previously F/I? You can check to see if it's got a colder plug or aftermarket fuel pump on it. Might be some kind of indication.

For what very, very minimal gains you'd see out of a cold air intake and that bumper (plus paint) you could purchase an UpRev and have it tuned and running right.

The bumper is more of a cosmetic modification IMO.

What is F/I? And how exactly can I check for it?
I figured it was moreless just cosmetic
I would go for an uprev and more modifications, but I have student debt looming over my head and an unfinished degree.

Yeah true the MR2 was a bit girly, but honestly it got my laid a lot haha. With my spyder, girls loved coming up and talking about the car. With the Z, guys like coming up and talking about the car.

I only have a grand to spend on the Z right now, so I can't do much beyond small modifications. Also, are you saying the 550CC Injectors are less efficient than the stock injectors? For that I might as well replace them with stock!

By f/I he means force inducted. Like maybe the previous owner had it turboed or supercharged. People just don't upgrade fuel injectors just because. That's why he said check fuel pump because for it to be able to push that much fuel it needs a way better pump. The pump is fairly easy to get to.

Forced Induction. Right. *Face palms* should have figured that one out. I'll see what's going on in my car, honestly I'm not real technical or mechanical when it comes to vehicles, I pretty much rely on this Forum, YouTube, friends and family when it comes to anything beyond tune-ups. I honestly plan to put in a supercharger sometime in the near future, so maybe it's a good thing?

I won't lie, I actually have some bookmarks on those. I started researching those (the link you gave me is actually one of my bookmarks) a couple hours after I made the intro post.

Thanks though, I highly appreciate it!

Welcome to the group and the Z owners family. F/I is a way of adding a little h.p. of course. "And if properly done and maintained, then is an excellent way" You will find a lot of owners just F/I, but not the saftey additions and mess their car up and then a los of owners add the safety additions and have a fun time with a fun car built for fun. No other way to say it. Maintenance and safety will keep the Z running as long as you want. I've never had a issue and be F/I for years. Take time to do little by little with your car and keep in your budget what you want to do. $1,000 you mentioned is a start of course, so check out your options and do what you like, good researching will provide good results. CAI is nice, as I originally did same, and now keep it in my storage with all the original stock parts. This will give the new owner, when I do sell it, the option to be F/I or stock. Mine is a 2003 Track Model Super Black Z with a llittle over 21,000 original miles on it currently and the car is fun when we do meets or go to Laguna SECA for a couple of laps. I actually live about 8 miles from there and one of the groups I'm in goes there annually, and another one I'm in does track days there. So have fun, but take good care of your baby and she will take good care of you.

Just be cautious about supercharging a motor thats got miles on it. Don't want to blow it up shortly after putting a ton of money into it

Well there's many routes I've been thinking of choosing. I'm honestly thinking of replacing the entire motor, transmission, clutch, and flywheel - all in due time of course. Currently I can only afford one of the above. After replacing all the goods, I might then Supercharge the Z. After that, I'll have a rocket for life (I don't plan on ever selling/getting rid of my Z)

Well I uploaded an album with my Z but it's not in my account - but it's still on the site. I'll eventually post some pics of my old baby (The Spyder). Hopefully one day in the future I can buy a new Spyder and take pictures of the 2 together!
