So my mechanic took a look and investigated why my clutch suddenly failed, and the pedal was unresponsive. After getting the car apart he found that the clutch was completely broken. I cannot tell if it was an oem clutch, or what. All it says was pht and some numbers. The flywheel was completely burned up, and spotted. It was the worst i have ever seen. I only owned the car for 14 hours before the clutch broke, and I am wondering if they replaced it a year ago like they claim. I did not get a picture of this, but part of the clutch broke off, it was a black plastic ring type material, and the material had broken off the clutch and there was a rip through the ring. It looked like carbon fiber the way the strands were, but im assuming its not. The clutch never smelt burnt or anything. It gave out when I was near redline (being a speed jackass) and tried to shift to third when the clutch pedal got stuck.
the black ring im talking about appears to be in the corner
Very interesting pics; thanks! That flywheel looks done. Got any pics of the pressure plate? There's probably other people that this would look more familiar to, but... dunno, could be a lot of things. Whats left of the facings on the clutch does look newish. It looks to be like the flywheel wasn't resurfaced for the clutch install; unless your just learning stick on this car. The excess wear on the outer radius of the flywheel coincides with the wear on the clutch, so at least it appears the clutch was installed facing the correct side. The wear could also be from fragments of clutch facing getting jammed in between. Could also be an absolutely sh*t clutch. Good opportunity to upgrade though.
You bought a beater, plain and simple. If you plan to keep it you should replace the clutch, flywheel, flywheel bolts, pilot bushing, pivot ball, and throw out bearing.....assuming the fork is still good. Make sure the rear main seal isn't burned out or you'll be doing it again.
