I was driving to school (CSUN) and on the way I got pulled over by a moto cop. He pulled me over cause my exhaust was too loud and he made me pop the hood. He then saw my nismo CAI and it did not have a carb sticker. Told him I got it from the dealer but he said I needed the carb sticker. He gave me a REF ticket.."modified emission" and I got a warning for loud exhaust, so now I have to go to the REF but i can easily swap out to the stock airbox. The problem I have is are they going to smog my car ? My CEL light is on... the cop just said I had to swap out the intake or show proof it is legal and they will sign it off. Will I also have to pass smog???

 

Possibly just visual Inspection they want to make certain your legal.

It is not a fix it ticket.. I got a fix it ticket before. This one has the state ref white sticker on the back of the ticket.. but im hoping your right because I wont pass smog

 

The risks of having a loud exhaust. You're going to make a trip to the dmv where a ref will check your car with a fine tooth comb, if he/she decides it is not up to par you may have to smog as well.

 

Yea I'm scared they are going to smog it.. but on the ref website they say they require the latest smog certificate. I will be calling them tomorrow to see exactly what they are going to do. Will keep this posted incase someone else gets it. Sigh don't want to let go of my jic exhaust :[

 

I wouldn't know but this makes me glad I live in Florida.

 

In GA they won't pass any car with cel, even for transmission.

 

I had a CEL for awhile due to tuning issues and had to do a special inspection.

I think the codes showed an ECU issue.

 

So wait.... you KNEW your car isnt street legal yet you ran loud exhaust to attract attention?. One question...

No inspections for us, then again if there were you'd see a lot less POS cars on the road probably.

 

I got rid of my exhaust and never get pulled over now. it's not worth the hassle.
