Default Key Fob

Hi,
We recently got a used 2008 350z for my gf and it only with one key/remote entry and we went to dealer to make one more key for car and they want 179 for key remote entry plus 135 dollars for the key. I research and see you can buy a key Fob for 10 dollars on ebay or amazon and can program it with new acquired key from dealer so we could save 200 dollars. Can anyone tell us if the key fob that look exactly like the one that came with the car work just as good as the one from dealership? thank

I bought a 10$ key fob that looks exactly like oem off amazon and programmed that pretty easily. Still using it today, 10months and counting. When i looked up how to program the key. I searched "my350z key fob programming." Goodluck

The wife lost her Acura key a while back. We were in Lowes and noticed they make chipped keys now. (Ace hardware does too now).

They made 1 for $30 and it does just fine, no re-progam at all. gl.

Buy the key on Ebay. You'll have to get it programmed at the dealer. Just program the fob yourself once that's done.

I'm guessing by those prices that your 08 probably has I-Key. If it does, there is NO way to program the key yourself. If you buy your own remote, the dealer will still charge an hour of labor for programming it. Make sure you get the right one though. If you supply your own and we try to program it, but it won't work, we still charge the hour, plus another hour when you come back with the right one. Just bite the bullet and buy one from the dealer.

I don't know where the dealer is getting those prices then. We sell the fobs for about $100, the key for $30, programming both is about $100. That's $230 out the door, if you don't have any coupons or ask for a discount (our writers will usually knock off 15% just cause you asked). At my store, you'd probably be under $200. Don't know why they want over $300. That's what we'd charge for an I-Key.

I bought my key fob for $8 on Amazon exactly the same as the key fob that came with my Z when I got it. I actually use the new fob cause it worked better. Had it over six months with no problems. It was very easy to program took me bout a minute, came with instructions and you can also look up how to do it on You Tube. I've seen transponder keys for $10 & less on Amazon.

from my experience you can buy the transponder fob for a little of nothing and program it very easily yourself, but if you need an actual extra key that's a different story you will have to go through the dealer because it must be programmed for your specific car I was told it has a chip inside and must communicate with your car in order to crank up someone chime in if i'm getting something wrong on this one!
