My truck had one in high school... And I wasn't gay till way later in life... It also had a 4 inch lift and some sweet 2 chamber flowmasters to make up for my little peter and my lack of muscle tone...

But back on the off-topic topic. Smaller steering wheels were indeed a "fad" but it was NOT without good reasoning.

Back in the S30 days, stock steering wheels were in the 380mm range. Substituting the stock wheel with a 320-350mm wheel offered up a true performance increase from quickening the steering ratio (equivalent turn of the wheel equals more steering input).

In addition, the leather grip of an aftermarket Momo (or whatever) was larger and the spokes had thumb indents for proper 9-3 grip. So, it wasn't just a fad, it did increase performance.

Holds true today as physics don't change; however, the stock Z33 wheel sits at somewhere right around 350mm and has proper thumb indents so is just about right for it as is. Given all that, there's not that much demand for a smaller diameter wheel (also due to the air bag deletion and steering wheel controls).

So, if you want to disparage, your choice. But this is a mod that works.

I think somewhere along the line, I migrated from "car enthusiast" to "driving enthusiast".

Cars to me are more of a means to an end than an end unto themselves anymore.

I'll admit that my wrenching days (full tear downs, builds, tuning, the works) are less than when I was 30 but basic things like suspension, exhaust I still do. But I admit that I'm far more about the driving and reaping the rewards of the work I do and that which I have done professionally.

Wheel time versus wrenching time. Nothing wrong with either and/or both.

Besides, if something breaks, I have someone other than myself to blame.

I agree, I'd rather do the work mice elf and know it's done correctly. I change my own oil and maintenance work. If I have the tools and skills to do it, bang. I HATE paying someone to do what I can learn to do.

Sealed my front wheels inside and out last night with BlackFire Wet Diamond to reduce brake dust. Guess I'm an enthusiast.

Now about Skip Barber...I am saving up.

 

I drive all day at work. If that wasnt the case I would be more excited to go driving places... The z is still a much funner then the F650, more comfortable too.

 

I do enjoy driving, but I love seeing cars. All of them! I really enjoy this site because ppl are so happy to show thier stuff off. Cars and coffee is my fav Saturday of the month. I also enjoy doing my own maintenance.

 

When I first moved here, underglow kits were still all the rage. Can't believe I used to think that sh*t looked cool.

not exactly... a gear head is someone who works on all sorts of engine and motors, may it be cars, boats, or planes. a car enthusiast is someone who is an enthusiast of cars. they dont need to know about them, know how to work on them, simply only that they like them. that is what the term "enthusiast" means.

so base on your flawed, immature definition, no kid is EVER an enthusiast and therefor the hobby is dead. now isnt it amazing that people arent closed minded as you and can actually pass their knowledge on so the next generation prosper.
