I don't think you understand what you are getting into here. A twin turbo Z is a serious deal when done correctly. I can also be a nightmare when things go wrong or are half-assed. Make sure that you understand the car as it stands from the factory (as far as how it reacts to your inputs) and then determine what kind of power you need to put down to be competitive.

You can get 500 to the wheels with a single or twin turbo, but you have to also determine what kind of response you need. Are you going to make runs in rapid succession? Is the car going to be driven outside of competition? You will have to install a lot more than just a turbo or two to make 500HP and function for more than a few runs.

Lastly, EVO 8/9/10 are turbo cars from the factory. Those cars are not making 500 to the wheels without some major upgrades. If they haven't, then they will be on the side of the road soon. Good luck.

Lsx is any GM V8 motor from 1990ish to today. Most use LS2 and LS1 motors. Best bang for your buck is do what I did. Find a wrecked 2010+ chevy camaro and pull the LS3 motor or find one for sale. Sitting in my 69 camaro.

1969 camaro with LS3 w/ 6 speed out of a 2015 SS camaro.

Is that what everyone is saying???

Also i love proving people wrong.
Is there not anyone on here who actually takes there car a 1/4mil on tracks and wants to win?
We also have this great section, dedicated to drag racing.
https://my350z.com/forum/drag-306/

I wonder if there is a lot of great information there

Lol its a wast of money to take a nismo and put 20k into. Buy a drag car if you want 1/4 mile fast times. You'll never be able to get out how much money you put into the car at that point.

The only thing your nismo really has besides top speed killing aero (also weight), is the stitch welding every where on the car and a few extra stiffening bars and 2 dampeners Making the car a load stiffer. I'm assuming high milage on the cars where none of the suspension has been changed out would negate any of the gain from having a slightly better spring and damping rate as they have probably needed to be rebuilt / replaced a while ago.
Yes, very true; but the OP was asking about the '08 model year and the Track version went away after '06 - giving way to the Nismo to take up that slack. Sorry, didn't make it clear, my point of reference. Doy....

But you're most certainly correct about the Track's all-so-subtle undertray. (As well as the weight factor of the Nismo..... fehhhh...)

But really, .01 diff in Cd between Niz and non-Niz means absolutely nothing in the real world. The environment is the enemy there. Heh heh.

^^^^ This.

IMO, Nismo was built with roads-with-curves in mind. Don't get me wrong, I love drag racing at any level - I started there - but Zs, being somewhat underpowered (for that type of activity) and with suspension conducive to successful negotiation of said curves makes it the wrong car for drag assaults.

But.... if you want to get the jump on your buddies on the drag strip, shorten your rear gear. A set of 3.90s or above (numerically to a point) will get you out in front first and they gotta play catch up (and a 500hp Mitsu most certainly should). Coupled with some careful shifting and tach watching, you stand a better chance against the evil Evos.

Idk mic.... those evo launch HARD.... even with gears, lets say 4.10s, i doubt a z will EVER get a jump if there on the same power level.

Note what I said.... "you stand a better chance against the evil Evos"

Didn't say "win".

And note I discouraged even trying given the Z's real playground is in the hills and on the track.

And even if an Evo can dust a Z.... and....??

Knowledge by itself means nothing.

What one chooses to do with it is another matter. For better or worse...

Correct me if I am wrong, but the nismo comes with a different flywheel? I think I read somewhere it comes with a lightweight flywheel. If that is the case I would say straight line Nismo will be faster, but then again slowed down in acceleration by the 19s it comes with factory in the rear.

On track, the nismo will be faster than a normal HR period. Not because of the aero, but because of the seam welded chassis.
