Not going to happen, but have fun trying. Bolt-on's on our cars, and especially a high-mileage 14-year old Z, will yield almost no performance advantages, but you might like the sounds of the intake and exhaust better.

Useful mods, are adjustable sway bars, lightweight wheels, better tires, driving school, Nismo stickers, etc. And old Z will most-likely have worn shocks, and I'd add those very close to the front of the list. Don't buy stupid purple Chinese-made coilovers just to impress the Honda kids. Do your research here on the forums.

Bolt on a supercharger or turbo kit. That will have great effect.

5/16 motordyne plenum spacer w/copper gasket
Longtube exhaust headers or something other than oem
13 lb flywheel
TB spacer
High flow cats
Convert to e85
Change diff setup to a 3.7 or 3.9
Port and polish inside intake manifold and plenum
370z y pipe
Nitrous
Track time
Sway bars
Gutt interior
F/I

Search button works wonders, probably best to look in the N/A build section

Longtube headers and high flow cats? Good luck getting both on.

I just put a list of options for possible bolt ons he could do. Obviously you cant put longtube headers paired with cats at all , he really needs to spend about 3 days of doing research on my350z to decide, but in all reality the $/hp ratio isn't really worth it on the N/A level

Depends on your goals. I spent $2500ish on pop charger, plenum spacer, hfc's, dual exhaust and uprev tune. Dynoed at 249hp. Hp wasn't my goal though. I wanted it to sound better. I accomplished that.

isnt much better on the vette... intake, heads, long tube headers, axle back and tune got me 50 whp at the cost of $7400 ish. although about half of that was labor. i will get the big bump in power when i cam it, but that wont be until it is retired to a weekender

$148 vs 188 per horsepower, but that seems like a lot for those parts. They really did kill you on labor. . .literally what I paid for my z 5-6 years ago : P

let me get actual part break down, they didnt install the axle back though. so about 17-1800 in labor i would guess

intake $150
heads $1900
headers and xpipe $1700
Axle back $1725
Tune $500

I'm just surprised you didn't do the cams when the heads were done? The labor is the same, you just needed the parts?

^^^ Key point.

People, let's keep things in perspective here... 15 WHEEL horsepower IS a "feelable" difference and it can change how the car behaves in corners and on straightaways.

But no, mo'power - no matter how much or how little gained is always a GOOD thing. The factor that deadeye and Trav point out very correctly is the all important "dollars/WHP" ratio one is willing to pay. And Z's have a pretty high $/HP ratio... but worth it.

I still tell anyone who would listen that besides driving school, that old hot rodder's trick of lowering the rear gears is truly one of the best ways to give one that extra punch without touching the engine at all. Especially in an HR car. (Of course, you have to be able to live with the downsides as well...)

i had a self imposed budget of $5500, def wanted to do the heads because of the valve issues, so i could have done either the headers or the cam... i chose to do headers because i didnt want to have a choke point. i know i did it backwards from most, but even the mechanic said with my choices he would have done the headers also.

whenever i do the cam it will only be $1900 installed with a retune which will put me around 565-610whp depending on the cam i go with

Screw the idle, go for the 610whp one!

I've been in the passenger seat of a GT500 with 565whp/tq at 2300rpm... The thing was a MONSTER. Felt like I was on my gsxr-750 AND he spun the tires up to 80 before letting off..still pulled HARD even without traction.

Only other time I've "felt" like I was in a Monster fast car was a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 with around 400hp, but it was only a 15 second car...the super low gearing he had in it made you think it was faster than it actually was.
