I designed some 350Z aero bits for 3D printing
Aloha Guys,
Having lots of fun getting my cheap af Z roadster in shape. I replaced the top, the headlights, repainted the wheels, got seat covers and a bunch of other small things.
I do design and 3D printing as a hobby and I made a couple fun parts for the 2003-2005 owners. These are parts you can print yourself for free if you have access to a 3D printer - or that you can send these .stl files to a printing service such as Shapeways and they can make these for you.
I made front canards both L and R that match the body shape of the Z exactly. I also made a cool rear diffuser that you print in multiple pieces and attach to the rear bumper. I made the curve for the rear bumper exactly and 6 pieces fills the space between the exhaust perfectly. Once I'm all done I'll post a photo of the finished product.
I hope some of you will find this useful stuff! It sure beats paying huge amounts for custom parts. DIY!!

Good job!
While the design of your pieces is rather strange, but where's enough space for customizing after printing.
Thanks! And keep going! We need more printable things for our cars!!!

Glad you guys like this stuff too!
Here's a few pictures. I'm mad because the previous owner placed that safety sticker 'tag' on the lower bumper and the fasteners have completely rusted out - so I'd have to saw it off and I'm not ready to do that yet. Thus instead of the full 6 strakes I could only put on 5 which looks not-as-good but what can you do?
This is just a prototype anyway and is just stuck on with 3M tape at the moment.
I'm getting my inspiration from cards like this Ford GTR and the new Aston Martin Vulcan both which have large diffusers.

I want to leave it on there for a few days and see if it warps (which it probably will), if it does, I'll pull it off and repaint it silver which should reflect enough heat to keep it from warping. I really like it black so another option is to print it from ABS filament which my 3D printer can handle. ABS doesn't warp in the sun unless it's crazy hot and here on Kauai it's never even 90...
Not sure about attaching the canards, but I might. I've only got $5500 invested in this Z and it's looking pretty sick already!
ps. the pictures are overexposed on purpose because it's hard to photograph something black and in shadow next to a silver car.

cool effort being creative indeed... but the cars u mentioned have large diffusers, yes, but only the back is visible, ...however they extended far underneath the car, both of which have a flat bottom.. the gradual sloping up keeps the slower moving low pressure air attached to the underside of the car, and diffusing its exit allows less drag and far less misdirection of exiting air, and allows a wing above to work better as well.
That being said, I would assume you designed these only for an "appearance of a diffuser", yes?

While the rear diffuser was made for looks, the canards I made should function like any other canard to create vortices along the side of the car to lower drag. Of course without a wind tunnel or fluid modeling software I can't really test them, but they should create the desired flow pattern.
I'm going to install them soon. I'm going to print 2 canards for each side.
Here's a couple bad photos that at least give you a feel for how they look and how 2 can be used on each side.
