Default Courtesy car cover

I took a look at the car cover Courtesy sells last night. It is a very nice fitted cover and should resist being blown off the car by high winds very well, as opposed to a non fitted cover that will allow air inside the cover, billow and blow off the car. having said that, the material used is light weight and thin. I believe such covers are intended to be used outside (when NOT raining or snowing) to protect the car finish from UV and the sun. If you are looking for an all weather outdoors cover, I would buy a fitted car cover made of the heavier Evolution 4 or weathergard material.
My 2 cents

Default cover interior

Tom-in-NY. Wish I knew how to post pix, then i could show you. The interior of the current cover on offer is the same fabric face as the exterior. Like I said, it is a lightweight cover intended to keep sun, UV and bird crap off the finish. Repelling rain and snow are not the forte of this material - if wet, I would strongly suspect that the fabric would 'cling' to the paint finish.

I've read other posts that describe the material as being similar to parachute fabric, meaning nylon or other light weight
man-made material.

I'll probably go with a polycotton. Still gives good general protection and is medium in weight.

Evo 4 covers are great but bulky and not cheap, easily $200+ for custom.

Cover Craft makes pretty much all the covers no matter who you buy from. I've bought mine others from BigSky in Montana (ads in R&T).

Guys...check out http://www.calcarcover.com/. My cover from them came today. I got the stormgaurd variety (I think that's what it was called...maybe stormshield). At any rate, the cover was about $169. It is very high quality. It fits perfectly and snug...will not blow off. You can also buy a small cable lock to lock it on (cable runs under the car). The cover is a nice heavy, thick material, that will resist dings as well as the elements. I had one of their Noah covers for a few years for my integra R...it held up great...not a single problem, no rip, seams, etc...it was great. The new one I got is an even heavier material than the noah...it's very thick and padded. Unfortunately, I can't post pics or reply after this because I will be out of the state for a week starting at 5am tomorrow. My cover was custom made since they just got the Z template finished....took about 2-3 weeks to get it, but well worth the wait. I'm telling you, you will definitely not be disappointed if you get this cover...it is very, very nice for the money, and from all descriptions it sounds far superior to the Nissan ones.

The Genuine Nissan car cover for the 350Z IS made of 100% WeatherShield, top and bottom. It is designed for outdoor use.

All car covers can promote scatches if the car is dirty or if sediments like sand get between the car's surface and the cover during high winds.

Car covers, in general, are for protection from acid rain, uv rays, bird droppings, etc.

There is nothing bad about the Genuine Nissan car cover. It is a well-made product, using state-of-the-art lightweight man-made materials.

Default Clearing up any confusion over car covers

Everyone take note. I wanted to clarify some earlier statements I made. There are different car covers for different purposes. The original poster wanted a car cover to protect his car outside from all elements including snow and rain. The best car cover material for this is a heavy material to resist the dirt and elements, and especially to resist the inevitable fading and wear and tear from the elements.

I have one of the Evolution 3 covers for my 240Z that covers the car when inside the garage. I use it on the car when parked outside to protect it against dust, bird droppings and dew, BUT - when it even smells like a chance of rain, off comes the cover! I think water between ANY car cover and the paint finish is very BAD! I also do NOT use the cover if there is any dust/dirt on the finish like PartsPeddler mentions above. The cover is normally on my 240 when parked inside a garage and the cover (as all covers do), WILL admit a very fine dust thru the material as a result of the desirable property of the material to breathe air and allow humidity to escape from the car thru the cover.

My assumption would be to the original poster 'nasty', to buy a heavier all-weather cover to use on his ungaraged car and cover the car (only when clean or only very slightly dirty) to protect against the elements. I would assume that the cover would be regularly removed to drive the car, the car and cover would be regularly washed, and the cover NEVER installed over a wet car or have accumulated snow melt on the cover and soak the cover. Remember that water here is the enemy to car cover use - the worse thing you can do is put on a wet car cover over a dirty car and bake it in the sun - now THAT will accelerate paint deterioration!

The Courtesy car cover is very suitable for outdoors and garage use in climates that see lots of sun and provides protection against dirt, bird crap and sun, but is not for use when it is raining outside. In fact, I do not believe ANY cover is suitable when it is raining.

Sorry if I misled anyone previously.

Cool

I purchased a custom fit cover yesterday from BigSkyCarCover.com I should have the cover in about two weeks. Hopefully, my car will be in by then. I will post pics and a review ASAP. They have several different materials to choose from and are priced accordingly.

Default Whew...

If you guys don't mind me asking your opinion, after reading all the posts, my car sits in a Covered Parking Car Garage but has open walls to Biscayne Bay/Ocean.

My 'intent' was to buy the car cover for long business trips greater than 2 days just for dust purposes, but based on the feedback I see above it may not be worth it due to potential damage?

Saludos.
