Default Can I install an air intake without my MAF going mad?

I was thinking about buying a short ram intake but to save me alot of money I was going to buy the pipe (spectre 8219) and then a cone filter ,but the guy at the store said that maybe the maf would not work well because it wasn' used to that quantity of air and I'd have to get it tuned ,is this true?

It is true, and it isn't.

If you are still using the OEM plastic MAF housing for your MAF sensor along with the pipe and filter, you will be fine.

Where the mechanic is incorrect it that yes, the tune would be needed if there was additional airflow with the modification but not because the MAF would not work. The MAF will read the additional air (If any with those mods) and compensate with the fuel demand as much as possible but the oem tune is based on stock setup.

With any modification to your car, a tune will be needed. But I would highly suggest keeping the OEM intake as it is pretty good from the factory and does a good job keeping Intake temps low resisting radiant heatsoaked air from the motor.
