A lot of them do like the Z's. Every forum has haters. This forum has even had some ghaters posting crap about the rx8 and the s2k.

I personally have seen a thread on s2ki where someone said some crap about a Z and the rest of the crew put him in his place.

And even if they don't like it, everyone on the streets LOVE it. I can't drive ANYWHERE without getting positive comments.

People staring, coming up and looking at it, I'v let people sit in it, I'v convinced someone to buy one, saying its the besr looking new car out, saying it handles amazingly and is fast after a ride in it... The list is endless...

well as a previous owner of the Z and a new owner of an s2k. I can say that most people i talked to liked both cars. For me I like them both as well, however for some reason I feel more at home with the s2k, maybe its because of the drop top, or maybe because its the 9k redline I dunno. I can say that both cars filled a niche and if my particular z didnt have so many problems I still would have it.

The minute I got rid of my Z everyone I knew started telling me how glad they were that I sold it and picked up a WRX. I had no idea how many of them sneered at my Z until I got rid of it! I still don't understand what that was all about.

I think one thing that makes 350Z owners dramatically different from S2k & rx8 owners is that there is a lot of heritage of the Z cars. I can't tell you how many times I've driven to a coffee shop or something and some guy walks up to me and says 'oh man, I used to have a 240z when i was in college', etc. . . My dad owned a 240 and a 260, I owned a Z32 300zx, and now a 350z. I take a lot of pride in the fact that this car has decades of legacy behind it.

I respect almost every car in this same price / performance category. Its a great time to be a sports car enthusiast because you can buy a ton of performance for a (seemingly) reasonable amount. I wouldn't give up my Z for anything short of an aston martin, (or maybe a G35, he he), but I understand why people would prefer other cars.

Take it ez..

I had the exact opposite experience. Everyone I knew was asking me what my problem was when I sold the Z. Everyone loved my car. Not one person I know, enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts, likes my Evo.

Jeezus! with all due respect what part of Chicago are you from?!? Is it a conservative or retirement community?? j/k i'm just giving you a hard time.

They probably thought the car was probably out of your character?
Given it's sport nature, the Z was a presumed to be hazardous or high risk? Now I'm intrigued.

For the most part, these are car guys and I'm a bigtime Japanese sports/GT car guy. They all know that and have seen my previous cars.

I couldn't tell you why they hated it (secretly, apparently), but they were definitely happy when I sold it for a WRX. They ALL like the WRX more. Maybe its because they think a 4-door is more of a sleeper. I don't know. All I know is that's what happened.

The Z was definitely NOT out of character for me.

They might be people like me who HATE Mitsu (after having owned one and gone through crap from Mitsu and realizing they have crap products).

I always wanted the Evo to come here since they came out years ago. I even drove an Evo VI in Japan and loved it (back when I had a 3000GT VR-4). I don't think I could bring myself to buy another Mitsu, though.

I have driven the S2000. Before I bought my Z, my decision came down to the Z and the S2000.
Yes the S2000 was a fun car to drive, but I thought the interior was a little cramped, and I`m 6`0" tall, so I`m not overly big.
The main thing that I could not get past was the lack of torque. It was increased for 2004, but only by 10 ft/lbs to 161. it feels like more because of the light weight of the car, but compare that to the Z`s 275.
I didnt really like that you had to basically beat on the motor to get the power out of it either.

Oh, I don't expect Mitsu to last another five years. Their entire lineup is god-awful and doesn't even begin to compete with Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, and they don't have a niche like Subaru does. They're losing a ton of money and there's probably going to be another management change. Basically, their only strong suite is the Evo, and though it's a great car, it's not (and never will be) a high-volume one. The only thing really saving Mitsubishi right now is the Eclipse, and I'm no fan of that car.

Not to mention, most of the Evo boys, once they sell their Evos, they're not coming back to Mitsubishi, not only because they have nothing to offer, but because they're screwing over people on warranties on the Evo. In short, that might make fiscal sense, but it discourages brand loyalty.

They're probably happy now just because you can haul their a$$es around. Also.. I've noticed some import people having some sort of insane devotion to turbo cars. If you car has a turbo.. they get all wet about it... I find it rather sad that some import people can't appreciate n/a power.

Its always about.. "but if you had a turbo"... but I don't have a turbo.. so F off...

Of course not!

Notice that I said "after". I got rid of the Z because I was having way too many problems with it, crappy help from Nissan and the dealers, and the IL lemon law gave me no recourse (since I simply don't drive enough every year).

They've been doing the warranty screwing since the early '90s with the 3000GTs. It's a real shame.

On a positive note, I've noticed that the Celica guys/gals are very positive about the 350Z. Most of them have nothing but good things to say about the Z and they admire/respect the car.

Definitely.. and many of them are upgrading to the Z as well. I'm a former Celica guy myself.

As a Z roadster owner...I of course am biased towards my Z. I've also driven the S2K and loved the sharp handling...it was a blast to drive. Definitely an awesome weekender. Hitting VTEC is like...."woohoooo!". The Z feels gutsy from the get go with its awesome torque. Given that I use my Z as a daily driver, I thought that the interior was a bit roomier (I was making a transition to this 2 seater from a larger car), and had a better overall ride quality for my sometimes never ending daily commutes through LA. And I love the sound of the exhaust (rich!) They really feel like two totally different cars though IMO. As for the RX8 - I haven't had the chance personally drive one yet, so I honestly don't have an opinion there...yet!
