Question To Blow or Turbo?

To Blow or Turbo?

I have been rebuilding cars since I was 16, my first was a '73 Camaro small block, Second a Porshce 914-4 (keep that a secrete) and the last a 1980 Porsche 911SC. All prior to purchasing the Z.

No question, in stock trim, the 911SC was a hog. You may think of Porsches as high revers as I once did, but the shear grunt off the line and the low end torque from a 6-cylinger a bit smaller than that of the Z is unbeleivable. Porsches feel and sound like americas muscle cars, but with the ability to turn.

Now, when I purchased the Z, I like many, have been disappointed in the low end torque, but I then realized that the low-end is not wher the torque is, it is a bit higher than my porsche. So I simply made the appropriate driving mods, rev the **** out of it and it will perform. But, you have to get there.

Currently I have installed basic mods such as a S/S Borla Headers, S/S Borla True dual exhaust, Injen Cold air intake, and HKS Circle Earth grounding kit. As many know, this was a little change due to the fact that I was looking at about 20-25hp to the wheels afterwords. While I attempted to lower the torque range a little by doing so, this had little to no effect.

My next consideration is the ATI ProCharger, its adjustable boost my be what I am looking for in the low end or maybe not. If you have done this mod, have you found it to be worth it? If so, have you had to strenghthen the rods, pistons, etc.

My alternate consideration is a G-Reedy twin turbo kit, once again, If you have done this mod, have you found it to be worth it? If so, have you had to strenghthen the rods, pistons, etc.

Any advice would help, as you can see I have been into porsche for a while and do not have a feel for the Japenese market yet.

I don't know if it's the same, but I installed underdrive pulleys on my BMW and that really spread out the power band, it only had a one or 2 hp peak hp/tq gain, but it broadened the usable power band and brought it down a thousand RPMs. Again I don't know if it's the same on the Z with the underdrive pulleys different cars act differently to mods, but i'd look into underdrive pulleys, from what i've researched Unorthodox makes good ones.

Ultimate Racing Twin Turbo kit, so you can keep the bumper reinforcement bar.

With the G-Reedy or the PE TT's you must take out the reinforcement bar.
