some help on exhaust
hey guys, i know i might get flamed for this, but i have fell in love with the way 350z's exhaust sounds. I own a 02 civic si hb that is turbo'd. However do you guys think it would sound pretty bad or nasty with the 350z stock exhaust? I knwo you guys run six cylinder engines, but I want that sound. I have a huge fartcan from hks, but i rather have your sound. I know i have a 4 banger, but any comments would be appreciated. wish i had a 350z, laters eric
I'm not an expert about this...but it is my belief that exhaust sound is determined by the engine not the exhaust...now i know that a new exhaust thats higher flowing will make the car sound louder thats not what i'm saying...what i mean is that the "base" (?stock?) sound is essentially determined by the engine...My experience with this is in the BMW realm...the e36 M3 (early ninties till 99 body style) has a nice burble to it when an aftermarket exhaust is added. I have an e46 non M (current bodystyle) and I fell in love with the e36 M3 burble and set out to make it on my 3 series. But as I researched i found that to be impossible. So unless you plan on putting the Z engine in your car, you aren't gonna get the sound you want out of a four banger. However i would be interested to see what kind of sound it would make.

I could give a list of reasons this is one of the "less logical" ideas Ive ever heard.
Id really like my car to look like a ferrari, perhaps Ill stick a ferrari hood on my car.
doesnt work. the exhaust wont fit first of all. and assuming your a master welder and cut the exhaust into little peices and find a way to get it out the back, you have nothing more than a junkyard exhaust that will look, perform, and sound like sh*t.
exhaust note is in the compression ratio, volume of cylinders, not to mention headers, intake, and overall geometry of the car that the sound is resonating off of.
P.S. sorry to bust on anyones hopeful sales

oh one more thing, you mentioned a dual exhaust that was quieter?
first off, you have a turbo, whats the dual exhaust for? only 1 pipe coming out of that turbo right? good, you only need 1exhaust pipe for that. spliting the exhaust after that turbo is a waste of weight.
second, the Z doesnt even have a dual exhaust anyway. 2 cats, into a single pipe, to a single muffler to 2 tips.

or a custom exhaust(thats what the Z would end up being, except worse...)
Im sure that some company makes a "more quiet" exhaust for the civic. the reason the Z is quiet also has to do with a resonator and cats. you probably have neither on yours which isnt helping.

Even with cars almost the same engine but differnent fire order and material will sound different. Perfect example is that I had a '96 camaro Z28.(LT1)..iron block, aluminum heads sounded noticably different than my '01 Camaro SS (LS1) with aluminum block, aluminum heads and diferent fire order than my z28.
Sorry, but it's not going to happen.
