I THOUGHT I bought a 2005 350Z Touring, but Nismo badging?
Hi everyone, long time lurker but first time poster.
I recently bought what I thought to be, based on VIN, a 2005 350Z Touring Coupe. (I'm still convinced it is, but I'm confused.)
I bought it sight unseen from a coworker who I've known for a long time as he was being relocated for our employer. He was the original owner, and it has 52,000 original miles. I know all of his vehicles to be immaculately cared for, so I had zero reservations.
He bought it from a Nissan dealership which changed hands, went out of business, and then re-opened under new ownership and management, so trying to do research through the dealership was sort of a nonstarter. He did not have dealer maintenance, but had it serviced regularly and immaculate records.
It sat for a long time since the last time he drove it, so it needed a new battery. I ordered a new battery, and when I popped the hood to install it, I found the engine and miscellaneous components (Engine, oil cap, air intake.) to have Nismo badging. Additionally, the molded floor-mats have Nismo badging.
He maintains he added nothing to the vehicle (I believe him, he keeps literally every receipt including fuel, oil changes, tires, etc.) related to every vehicle he owns, none of the dealer paperwork has anything about Nismo parts or kits being added, and because of the model year, it obviously isn't a true Nismo. Dealer paperwork shows that it had less than 100 miles when he purchased it in 2005. He bought it off the lot and did not order it from factory.
Were there Nismo performance kits for the 2005 in that same 2005 model year?
Is it possible someone ordered the car from factory, had the Nismo stuff installed, then backed out of the sale?
Runs and drives like a dream, so I'm not complaining.
