Hello Party People

I’ve been lurking for a while and deciding to introduce myself. I have purchased an 05 350z Anniversary edition as my track car about a year ago for road racing. My first modded car was 08 Mazdaspeed 3 I purchased 5 years ago. I still consider myself a rookie as far as having car knowledge. I do feel comfortable taking things apart and putting it back together, but still working on troubleshooting and part replacement and upgrade.

I am dedicating the car for track only. Right now I’ve only stripped most of the interior, put in race seats, squared wheel setup, Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires, installed SS brake lines and brake pads. March was my first weekend at Virginia International Raceway. I had a great instructor that I learned a lot from. The car felt strong and responsive. The car out performed my nerves. I need to work on trail braking, turning into turns better and smoother, and exiting with proper acceleration. My best recorded time around the track was 2:32. I know for sure I can make up at least 5 sec. I know I left more but baby steps. Before and after each run I checked oil pressure, oil level, tire pressure, water temp, and other things I was limited to with oem gauges. Everything was in normal range according to the recommendation through research. Since the car is well built and not pushing the car to its potential there was nothing to fix or change.

I was planning on doing at least 4 events this season but I rescued 2 horse size puppies, destination wedding, and bills took all the car money I saved up. I will probably do 1 event in Sept at Dominion raceway which is local and less money than VIR. I then may be able to squeeze another event in November.

I don’t have much knowledge to share because this is my first Z and I’m still fairly new to car things. I am up for hanging out and talking if I happen to be at the same event or local. Right now the car is sitting in my driveway ready for the next event.

Welcome- and thanks for taking the time to write a good introduction. Your track day at VIR makes me a bit envious. The SCCA Runoffs will be there this fall and I wish I had a day with good instruction to start learning that track.

VIR is 2.5 hours from me. I am lucky I'm that close. That track is fast and technical. When I went it was the perfect weekend to race also in HPDE 1 that weekend they said it was the least amount of participant they had in a while. That was good for me because there was less traffic and less slower people to get stuck behind. On my last run I think only 3-4 people were out so it felt like I had the track to myself. My instructor had more faith in me and the car than I had. He was specific in his instructions and also we went back to the classroom and he went over every question and driving line.
