Default HR Swap Q

I was wondering if it’s possible to swap an HR motor with ALL electrical components from a donor car into a 03 DE 350Z? I mean does everything fit correctly(PNP)?Thanks

Don’t the HR and DE chassis have the same mounting points? Can’t you swap the ECU, BCM, IPDM, etc....and all the harnesses that go with them? Then swap in the HR engine, CD009-trans, and HR steering rack? And if you don’t need to fabricate anything...isn’t that pretty much PNP?

Yup..that’s what I meant. Just look for a salvaged HR 350 and swap everything would work. Correct? Isn’t the only difference(dimension-wise) with the DE and HR is the height right?

nope...

many many differences … if you want HR power levels on your DE get cams, intake, exhaust, and a tune. If you want more power than an HR put a turbo or a supercharger and a tune. Either will be less headache and will be less expensive.

but don't listen to us … search up and down in this forum and on the internet and see how many people ask this same swap question and see how many times it's been done.

I just don’t hear any explanation of why? Everyone just says “no” or “it’s not worth it”. I UNDERSTAND that it’s not worth swapping to a slightly better HR engine with minimal gains, but if you get a donor car....what problems would you run into doing the swap?

I'm no expert but the DE and HR are very different engines and different chassis. And sure, you can bring over all the computer boxes from a HR and put them into a DE but there are many systems that 'talk' to each other in each respective chassis that aren't going to be compatible.

Think of them as two different cars - You couldn't take all the engine, computers, wiring, etc out of a chevy corvette and install them into dodge challenger and expect them to work - despite they are both rwd, 8 cylinder, high-performance cars.

I would invite you to read-up on other people who are interested in this swap and see how far they've gotten before you start buying parts.

There are a couple of people who have swapped in an HR engine but they used the engine harness and ECU from the HR but cut into the harness to incorporate it into the dash DE dash harness to communicate. I was wondering if instead of cutting into the harness...you could just swap all the wiring. Aren’t the DE and HR Zs much more similar than a Vette and Challenger?
