Good stuff, Mic! I was going to write a post on the 17th anniversary of my preorder Z, but decided it's a bit redundant. What more is there to say about the best car I've ever owned!
This is about all the "press" I could find talking what today is. Guess I expected too much fanfare. Always glad our diehard Japanese car fans friends at JNC got it right:

Since the 370Z Anniversary Edition was released earlier, and there no business case to continue development on the Z35, they've simply mothballed the nameplate. It's only the Z enthusiast community who continues to celebrate, so rev those engines and drink a toast!

Yeah, enlisted (and tried to enlist) a few people to go for a drive over the SC mountains and some beach bonfire action to celebrate and the few that were "in" bailed.
The enthusiast community seems to have been replaced by people more interested in parking lot "meets" or "cars n' coffee" events to show their polished iron rather than putting it to good use.
But whatever.... I'm proud of the Z's history and that's all that counts for me. I was there at the relative beginning and even after being out of it for years raising my family, I'm back here doing what I love.
If you had your druthers which early model would you have ? 240, 260 or 280?
I think I would lean to the 260, with rare a/c, gotta have a/c
240Z if "investment" is part of the plan.
280Z if a driver. The fuel injection is pretty much faultless (or at least simple to service).
260Z I steer clear due to the "one off bastard status" - they're not bad cars at all but the OE flat top carbs are horrible and vapor lock issues are to be avoided. However, both of those issues are easily rectified.
I sold both a 240 and 280 within the last couple of years. The 240Z was clearly the money maker with pricing pretty much through the roof these days.
A/C was (and actually still is) available on all of the cars but more often found in the later cars.
I understood the 260 to be better as far as chassis , not true?
Nope, pretty much all the same. There were tweaks throughout the S30's life but nothing that's really substantial enough other than needing to know which chassis you were buying parts for. The 74.5 260Z was kind of a crossover car in which it got a couple of suspension mounting tweaks and the newer ('75+ 280Z style) body mods..... bigger bumpers, revised rear taillights, interior changes.
