I replaced my stock non Bose radio with a Pioneer AVH-1550NEX, 6.2" with Apple car play and blue tooth, I like the features of the HU but I want speakers that complement the new radio. First I'd like to replace the front speakers since they're the easiest to replace and they produce most of the sound in the cabin, But I would like some suggestions for rear speakers but I believe the rears are going to be coaxial speakers. Not to the fronts. The tweeter is separated from the main door speaker. I see component speakers sold with and without a crossover box, Do I need one? The stock speakers don't seem to have a cross over circuit. I was looking at

which come with a crossovers and Pioneer TS-A652C which don't include the crossover. I would like to keep things simple, I do plan on putting in some sound deadening material and wave blockers while I have the door apart.

Any recommendations?. I would like to keep the cost to no more that $150 for the speaker components.

Oh, one more thing, I saw somewhere where someone replaced the front with coaxial speakers retaining the factory tweeters. What are the pros and cons to that?

 

Infinity Kappas, imo has the best sound quality and bass response compared to the others you posted. I have tried all three brands and Kappas have been the best responding speakers without an amp. They work great with the "loud" function on Pioneer headunits. I have the coaxials and components in 3 different cars. The z has Kappa components with a powered 10" sub and it sounds really clean.

 

I tend to prefer JLs, bit they can be pricey. External crossovers can be a pita, but they complement the setup by filtering out frequecies your speakers can't handle, weren't designed for. You get better sound and longer life from your setup.
I had the Bose premium package with Clarion speakers. You can economize by changing the fronts and tweets and new sub, disconnect rears. The original speakers were pretty bad, I wouldn't reuse any of them if upgrading.

 

Do you have to replace the stock tweeters when adding new speakers in?

 

That's another question I'd like to know the answer to. If I replaced the front with coaxial speakers could I just leave the original tweeters connected thus having two way speakers in the front and a separate tweeter?

I installed a Pioneer 5100 with 2 Alpine SPS-610 rear speakers 4 years ago. No change to other speakers. It changed the sound stage of my interior to clear, crisp, and with all the bass that I need.
And the price is very reasonable.
