I will most likely be forced to locate a Z through another dealership since there are none in the area that I'm looking for.

I'm guessing it's more expensive to locate one than to buy through the original dealership....Just wondering how both sides can get commission from the car...is it split up? or do they make the car more expensive to compensate?

If so, Ill just drive the extra 50 miles or so...

Dealers trades are sop but if you don't know the local dealer I'd go direct to be sure of getting best deal.

My last two cars came from 150 & 300 miles away but I use a car broker.

Go to the official Nissan website and click on 350Z-Roadster or Coupe. There you can put in the color and trim levels that you want and do a dealer search for up to 100 miles from any zipcode. They will list all dealers with inventory by model color & trim including location phone numbers and often contact name. I found mine that way.

You have to be careful with that though. I looked up the inventory at my dealer on a Friday night (after closing). It said they had about a dozen in stock. When I went at 11:30 the next morning, they only had 6. I know that my dealer didn't move 6 Z's in the first 2 or so hours since the salesmen arrived. When you find a dealer with what you're looking for, be sure to give them a call before you drive out of your way only to find they don't really have it.

I built the car I wanted on the Nissan website and began my search. After about two - three weeks found a 100% match. Delt with dealer via e-mail and phone. Got a better deal than I could get locally. Got picked up at the airport. Airline ticket refunded. The best part was driving the car from Phoenix to Albuquerque. Sure did cut into those break-in miles. Good Luck!

It has been a year, but if my memory serves me right, once you pick the Zip Code, a list of dealers comes up and the # of "Z's" he has. After choosing a dealer a list of "Z's" in his inventory comes up with the % each matches against what you built on the Nissan website. You will even know the VIN. I found it a great tool. Don't know what you are looking for, but I can tell you that Reliable Nissan here in Albuquerque has 7-10 in his inventory, both coupe and roadster.

also cars have to be reported as sold by the dealer for the website to remove them. which sometimes takes the dealer a few days depending on how quickly the deal is finalized.

You may actually know when the car is coming before the local sales rep. I got a call from my sales person who said "guess what just arrived?" I not only told him the color and trim but I also gave him the VIN number! He couldn't believe it. Suggested that he check the Nissan website occasionally.

Nice dude, that's even better than the salesman from my dealership [note, not the one I talked to] who called me two weeks after I got my Z (coupe) and said "I saw you were inquiring about Zs and I just wanted to let you know we just got a few roadsters in if you're still interested in getting a Z."
