2003 DE: Is porting worth it?
Hey guys so I’ve been looking to getting FBO on my 2003 DE. I have z1 HFC and full catback tomei exhaust and was looking into what engine mods/intake mods I can do next. I came across porting and thought that this would be a better way to gain HP than buying all new MREV parts or spacer for my plenum. I know the factory plenum has crazy angle aggression towards the front airways. On https://www.vqboysperformance.com/pr...ntake-full-set, I saw that you can get NA POWER PACK and I could get a Ported Upper Plenum, Ported Lower Collector, and Ported Lower Manifold. For 500$ I feel this is way cheaper, easier, healthier, and a better way to gain HP. I would of course get this all done with a tune at my local shop. What do you guys think? Has anyone gotten this deal or have had their plenums ported? Is it worth it for the money? What type of HP gains can you get from porting a DE? Just looking for overall advice or prior experiences, seems to be a better way to gain HP while staying NA.

Nah - not worth it. The truth is that the OEM plenum is just about as efficient as it's gonna get. Nissan put many hours into the research & design of the plenum intake and (for all intents and purposes) didnt leave much on the table for aftermarket.
With a tune and every non-turbo/supercharger bolt on you might see 280hp.
If you can find a Cosworth plenum and want to spend the $2k for it, you'll see gains.
Your next best bet will be MREV2 mod, plenum spacer.
If you want power you gotta turbo or supercharge ... with that being said there are many options for the DE.

FWIW the restrictions are in the upper section, it looks in the picture like they copied the MREV and ported the lower. You will still need a spacer with that to get better gains but it won't be anything substantial without cams. The MREV is ridiculous price wise, I have a copy of it that much like that place you posted was machined and honed (not ported) I used that with a Motordyne spacer and did decent IMO. Another bunch of parts chilling in my basement if you want to buy them lol. $500 for machined parts is a lot, and the bottom manifold will not do much, I'd do a spacer and 75mm TB and call it a day.

no but I have seen it somewhere here, granted it may be one of the cases similar to the Kinetix where they got a bad rep for not working for one person. So maybe it does, but that's a BIG price to pay for a maybe.
