2004 350Z Headlights don't work - modified wiring?
I just got this 2004 350Z on trade along with some parts as a drift build project I am taking over. I was digging into it my headlight assemblies don't work at all. No turn signals, no high or low beam, no running lights, nothing. The driver-side lamp is missing the HID ballast entirely, but both headlights seem to have wiring that is not stock. Pictured is the passenger side assembly. Both have this... I am assuming it is a ground that goes nowhere (first picture). I tried grounding that but I still got nothing. I don't know what happened to this thing as it looks like nothing I have found searching google or looking at how the wiring is supposed to look. The tail lamps do work perfectly fine.
My question:
Can I just buy replacement headlamp assembly wiring? Do I need to buy new headlights? Would new headlights even come with the wiring. I have searched a bit but I can't tell if I am expected to port the wiring over to the new headlights.
Yes, it looks like somebody hacked into the OEM wiring. Possibly to add LED lighting inside the housing (halo rings, red eyes, etc). Could you post some pics of the actual lenses? That will help determine what you got and if the plastic lens was removed and re-glued. In regards to replacement headlamps (cause those look pretty roached). They should include the factory wiring, however some assemblies do not include the ballast/igniters. It all depends on if you have HID headlamps or Halogen. The earlier 350Zs were both trim and year specific for the type of headlamps, the 06+ all use the same assembly. Note that for 06+, the mating wiring harness on the car is different when compared to prior years. In short, if you get replacements, make sure they match up with the year/trim of your Z.
Good Luck!
