Will a 350z run without a camshaft position sensor?
Hi folks,
I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if a (2004) 350z will run with one of the camshaft position sensors completely disconnected?
The reason is that I want to replace one which is throwing up an intermittent fault code and it seems to be stuck. I can’t get the push/pull tab connector off the sensor, and the sensor has no play in it when I remove the 10mm bold.
I would like to know that if I add more force and end up snapping the sensor in the engine block and can’t remove whatever is left in there, would the car still be drivable to a garage with one of the sensors completely absent?

It would be difficult. I managed to replace bank 1, but bank 2 is being a PITA.
The boomers where I live don't allow anyone to work on their vehicles in the residential car park, and we're surrounded by permit-only roads with a hefty CCTV automated fines for parking more than 2 hours.
It would take me longer than 2 hours to bust the sensor and then find a recovery service to collect it, as well as find a local garage with availability, then a damned uber back to where I live.
1st world problems.

Bank 2, as in the left bank, or the driver's side, is a PITA.
You can try reaching around from the other side under the TB, or, alternatively, attack it from the driver's side by removing the intake tube, TB, and other hoses to try and get better access to it.
As painful and futile as it may seem, I would keep at it. Perseverance will prevail!

I can remove the bolt by touch alone from (our) passenger side and can twist the sensor a little, but there's no angle I can go in with a flat head screwdriver to twist in between the sensor and the block to pop it out in the same way I did with the bank 1.
I think I will have to jack it up and go in from the bottom.
