Default SC 2004 350z

I just bought this 2004 Super Charged 350z was told to change the fuel filter and was wondering if I should go with an external fuel pump and filter because wen driving if I punch the peddle it goes but then I start getting what seems to be gas pinging or sounds like . Also I have new coil packs and plugs from my g37s could I use those on my 350z

If you just picked up an FI modified Z, I would have a pro-tuner shop give it a complete inspection 1st and get their opinion. Typically SC kits require a piggy back fuel pump or upgraded pump in the tank sender unit (along with different spark plugs, wide-band O2, piggy-back PCM, new PCM, or PCM reflash). By the way, the fuel filter is part of the sending unit in the fuel tank, 350Zs don't have a traditional external in-line filter that I'm aware of. If you hear pinging, that could be knock or pre-detonation, or simply some noise from the CATs/exhaust (harmless). Under those conditions, I would err on the side of caution and not drive the Z until a definitive answer can be had from a professional.

Since you live in So-Cal, I recommend contacting Specialty Z. They have loads of experience with FI modified Zs and will be able to give you the most informed recommendations for sorting out your Z.
Congrats on your purchase, I hope it doesn't turn into a serious headache for you (always a risk when buying a modified car).
Good Luck!

I'm curious as well. The only CARB compliant SC kit for the VQ35DE that I'm aware of is the Vortech V3 complete kit (tuner kit no longer compliant). The Stillen kit is CARB compliant but only applicable on the HR equipped vehicles.

Yes it is stillen with the up graded race pulley. There are more upgrades to the engine I just can't remember what they all were also has an upgraded transmission to match the SC
Oh ya there are no cats they took them off to get the Xtra hp that is suppose to be 610hp.
Thanks for the help and input.

Did you buy it out of state? My guess is you won't pass inspection

Is it the twin roots Stillen kit or the Stillen kit using the Vortech Blower? Would be great to see a picture. The old roots style Stillen kits for the DE didn't produce much power (like 360hp or something) and also required the hood to be replaced/modified. I think those were CARB compliant for their time, but I suspect Stillen didn't want to renew/update the exemption which is why they stopped selling them. If the engine is pushing over 600bhp, I suspect the block has been built up (forged goodies) plus the modified pulleys (more boost baby). I think the OEM block is only good up to 500bhp before bad things happen, and even that might be a stretch.

Hope you get it sorted. Should be an awesome ride, but registration will be troublesome in CA, not impossible though.
Cheers!

I Checked the coil packs because it didn't sound right and one was bad so I used a new coil pack from a g37s that I had and it sounds better but I think it needs new plugs.

i seriously doubt you will pass, considering all the work done to it, it definitely has been tuned. Look up the commifornia ecu law. If you bought it from a person in CA, they probably dumped it because ot wouldn't pass

Today I put an OBD on it and got code , p1111. And also 3 monitors out catalyst, evap, and 02 sensor. I hope cats will take care of the 3 monitors. It's the code I'm worried about . But at least it has nothing to do smog.

I was wondering if adding an external fuel pump will give it more gas or will it not do anything because of the internal fuel pump is only letting so much fuel in .?

What's your AFR?
What are your injector sizes?
How much psi are you running?

You need to find yourself a person who can point you in the right direction with these cars.

No disrespect however this car is way over your understanding of engine and performance. You bought it with issues which means whoever passed it on to you ran out of money to fix them.

Let's clarify once and for all, the car does not make 610hp and it never did as well. Whatever you are feeling is closer to the 300-350whp without accounting for issues.

The car could benefit from a whole check by someone knowledgeable in the VQ world.

Fuel delivery needs to be gone through, injectors cleaned, fuel volume checked. Confirmation via logs that your coils are good as well and lastly the tune itself.

Let's hope the car is tuned on Uprev and not the Stillen piggyback.

Good luck!

Unless the engine is built and that blower is being spun to the moon, you're making about 300 HP. My "every part you can bolt on" '06 was making 281 whp and my car was quicker than my friend's Stillen SC car. Find someone who knows cars and have them lok things over, or take it to a reputable shop to be given a once over.
