Default Which Cold Air Intake

Hey everyone

So my new 350z has an Afe Takeda Power intake on it. Stupid intake as it is short ram and sucks in hot engine air. Also, previous owner did not tune it when installing.

Had vehicle on Dyno last week to check A/F ratios and apparantly he said mine is running extremely rich on WOT. He said it was VERY rich and I can smell fuel on the dipstick. He said fuel will be mixing with oil and will remove the protective oil coating in the engine and could damage engine so recommends a tune asap.

Anyway, while I get a tune, I wouldn't mind having a bit more power. I have a full Titanium exhaust from the cat and am going to knock out the cat to free up the flow.

I also want to replace the Intake with a longer CAI that extends through the original air intake hold and places the filter infront of that section.

My question is, which CAI would be recommended ?

Also, I am going to do plemum spacer at the same time. Apart from Intake, Exhaust and plemum spacer, is there anything else cost effecient for some gains I could do for the moment.

I plan to go FI in the future but not for a year or so.

I don't believe it's rich for one second (unless there is an issue with the engine)
A properly working engine will never run rich, even if you mod, it will go lean, not rich.
oil smelling like gas is normal operation, unless it's new oil.
Stock 06 box is about as good as it gets, also you dont need a tune for an intake.

Just about any cold air intake from a reputable source is going to work well - you have the right idea to have it take air from the front of the car.

Do you have any check-engine-lights on?

I would ensure you dont have any issues with the engine and if you want to invest the cash I would put new upstream o2 sensors and new cam shaft and crank shaft position sensors. I would also clean the MAF sensor, reset the TB, and possibly do the idle air re-learn process.
I would put new spark plugs in, fresh oil/filter, possibly flow-test/clean your injectors.

Look into the Motordyne Plenum (whether you buy theirs or you machine it yourself is up to you.

A couple manufacturers make true cold air intakes that locate the filter right inside the bumper like Injen, Z1, and Admin Tuning.

As far as cost efficient gains staying N/A? Nah, not really. If you wanted to max everything out with N/A, add a bigger TB and headers to the list, but the most cost efficient way to add power is FI.

The stillen intake is heat shrouded very well, and with the velocity stack in the filter it theoretically has a linear air path like oem. Combine that with an apex'i power intake filter like i did and you're ready for the winner's circle.

Stillen is my favorite but the Apexi filter does not work with the huge velocity stack which is worth keeping.
Also Admin does not sell DE intakes anymore.
Stillen>Injen>Z1.

I noticed that. What's up with that? Admin still sells the dual intake setup for the HR but no love for the DE. Womp womp.

YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, YOU CAN'T FIT THE VELOCITY STACK IN THE APEX'I FILTER. THE DESIGN OF THE APEX'I FILTER KIND OF REMINDED ME OF LIKE A REVERSE STILLEN FILTER IF THAT MAKES SENSE. AFTER ABOUT 10K MILES I SWAPPED IN THE APEX'I FILTER AND ONLY HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE FITTING IT AROUND THE STILLEN MOUNTING PLATE. GOOD IDEAS ALL AROUND THOUGH DARKZ

I do not know why they stopped selling.
I think they recommend Z1 or RZG now?
