Default 2nd gear sliding back into neutral

Hi guys, yesterday I was installing a head unit on a Z I’m working on. I was going through the gears while it was parked. All of the gears are notchy, except the 2nd, I put it into 2nd and it won’t stay in 2nd it will slide out and go back to neutral.

I’m new to driving stick but I’m pretty sure this isn’t normal.

will get a video when I have a chance.

Could be multiple causes for this. The early Z33 6MT years had known synchro issues. If this Z has been abused (aka clapped out), most likely the transmissions is toast. If you're lucky, it could be something as simple as re-adjusting the shifter plate. You can try adjusting the shift plate, it's easy and quick to do, if that doesn't change anything for you, then either live with the problem or replace the transmission with the improved CD009. I'm assuming you have an 03-05 model/year.
Cheers!

It’s the 2007 Enthusiast, I feel like it’s the shift plate. I will get a video and check it out later

Ahhhh, if you have a 2007, then you have a Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) inside the bell housing for actuating the clutch. Those are known to start leaking and can cause problems getting in and out of gear. But with the engine off, even failing clutch hydraulics should not cause issues shifting gears since none of the shafts are rotating. Still worth checking over the shift plate and I would also take a look at the linkage between the shifter and transmission. I remember someone having a similar problem recently and found out the linkage bolt was loose!

Hey man thanks for the insights, especially on my post about the startup noise, turns out it doesn’t happen when I push the clutch in and shift. I was just toying around with it. 😂😂 and forgot to clutch in
