so the engine worked fine and it was just the tach that wouldn't move?

Someone posted a while back that their tach just stopped working as well. I don't recall if they ever determined why it happened. You may want to try to find that thread.

teh215 - That may have been me but I had a little more then a sticking tach.

I'm driving up to Whistler clipping along when all of a sudden the dash goes ape sh*t. The speedo drops to zero, the rpms jump around like a frigging jack rabbit. ABS, Airbags, ebrake lights all come on. The tach finaly drops to zero and the whole time the car didn't miss a beat.

Pull off in Squampton at the gas station to check it out and refuel. Restart the car and she's all still messed up. I just assumed the computer crapped out so I would have not VDC, ABS and speedo's but everything was running smooth so we kept going.

Finally stopped, ate dinner and when I rturned to the car it was fine. Took it into the dealer and had them check it out and no problems where recorded. Hasn't done anything since.

My tach stopped working for me for about 2 minutes too. I stopped at a red and when I took off it just lay there as if asleep. I thought I was going to have to take it to the dealer but when I checked it later it was working. Hasn't happened since.

That sucks, try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and reset the CPU, may help.

Strange. My stock 04.5 base has over 6k miles and this has never happened once. Does this problem seem to affect everyone or just people who are modded?

Maybe you had a short somewhere in your wiring to the dash.

Happened 3 times to me, stuck at 3k rpm's all times until pushed in clutch, then it would go back until it reached 3k and sit there again until I shifted. 15 minutes later it would work fine. All 3 times it was about 90 degrees out and the car as sitting in the heat for 3 hours. Dont know if it is relevant. Took it to the dealer and they never heard of the problem before and could not find a problem.

Have had speedo problems where the needle will dip all of a sudden during a consistent traveling MPH, e.g. traveling 65mph and the gauge dips to 45 mph and the climbs back up to 65 again. Can't replicate the problem consistently yet.... so can't get it fixed yet. Seems I'm the only one with this one so far... (or I'm the only one who has noticed, as most people use the digital speedo for tracking speeds).
