Z hands down. Not biased at all, my friend has a Boxter, he is trading it in for the Z. Much faster than the boxter.

My brother had a boxter before getting a Z. His was not the Boxter S and let me tell you the clutch SUCKS, you really had to work to shift gears. Handling was ok but not as good as the Z and the power......Hmmm there was none . That thing felt like it was running on 3 cylinders. Disgrace to the name porshe.

As far as the handling I think would actually give the edge to the Porsche. But in a straight line that Boxster is useless.
I looked really hard at them for a long time but here in AZ it is either seen as "poor man's Porsche" or a "stripper car."

The Boxtser S on the other hand is a very complete package. Overall I am SO HAPPY I got my Z. Maintenence for a Porsche gets ugly quick. Not to mention you will most likely be looking at a used and possibly abused one.

It seems like a Z Roadster is what you need!

Looked at the boxster before I bought an S2000. I loved the thrill of the S2k. Got rid of it for a Z, very happy with the Z. If you're comparing the boxster S, I believe it is in the same performance league as the Z. The regular boxster doesn't hold a candle to the Z in terms of acceleration. The boxster has a rougher ride than the Z, and it's interior is same (disappointing) quality of the Z. The ride, gearbox, and motor of the boxster are definitely inferior to the Z....but I love the way the boxster feels when you fling it into a turn. It's like it sits on its belly and just slides around the center. It's amazing. The Z feels a lot more polar (I know it's a front midship design).

my friends bor had black boxster (not S) and it was my dream car
he changed the front bumper to turbo style and it looked really bad dude...but when he heard that i got my Z last OCT..he test drove it and changed it..kekeke the regular boxter cannot beat the Z with gear ratio or clutch system..it sucked dunno about S but he said that Z got better performance than regular boxster....
proud of my Z!!!

Before buying my "G", I test drove a Boxter S. Nice car, however I did not like the engine noise behind my head. Did not like the interior, and it did not feel that fast. It had the optional wheels on it so it did handle well, the clutch felt good, but IMO, the "G" was the much better car. Boxster also cost so much more.

This is also coming from a former 944 owner. IMO, the "G" is what the 944 would have evolved into had Porsche kept it in production.
